I can sort of understand becoming a Khrushchevite, I don't understand thinking Deng is good.

I think it's a way of personally coping with the realisation that ML already had its shot at glory, but unfortunately didn't make it. By becoming a dengoid you can still believe China will reveal its power level one day and save the world.
I can sympathise with old people like Losurdo, who turned dengoid near the end of their lives. It's the whole "accepting Christ at your deathbed" but for Marxists.

If Ismail wants to be a Marxist, he can’t be a Khrushchevite. Khrushchev has far too many un-Marxist positions including his foreign policy views, views on class-struggle within the USSR, not to mention stuff like slandering Stalin for his own gain. Ismail is revisionist, especially when paired with his views on modern-day China – the farthest thing from proletarian democracy and socialism

When will Stalinists learn that anti-revisionism from above literally never works?
