Why are socialist groups filled with mostly students and academics nowadays? There was a time (pre-60s I think) where socialist movements were made up of factory workers and other wage-laborers.
Why have these people left the Left in favor reactionary and neoliberal parties? Does this have something to do with idpol? I can imagine some 45 year old worker who doesn't hate gay people but feels uncomfortable around them and occasionally makes racist jokes with his buddies at work feel completely aliened and at odds with the language policing and general faggotry of groups like the Democrat Cops of America (it's also mostly made up of students and academics).
What do you think? Can we have socialism without cancelling people for saying the n-word in private? I've argued against type of stuff on reddit and get called a Asserite and call me a class reductionist or something.
i'm not saying COINTELPRO literally destroyed the american left from the inside but COINTELPRO destroyed the american left from the inside using identity politics.
Kevin Reed
tl:dr OP decided to make the 1 billionth thread on this board crying about idpol bc someone called him a reactionary after he said dumb reactionary shit
I hate language-policing and I am personally fine with racist jokes and all as they lessen the hyperfixation around the concept of "race" but he said a little too much in his post and let it slip that he has thinly-veiled misanthropic views. OP deserves no sympathy.
And just for the record, dumbass, the claim that socialists are mostly college intellectuals & students is an entirely unfounded reactionary lie that you've taken at face-value. And plenty of students are workers too anyway so I don't see what you're getting at with this whiny thread.
Chase Jones
I can see i've struck a chord. the leader of my local Democrat Cops of America chapter is 100% college professors and teachers. The rank and file members are mostly students.
In general, if a comrade says to me "there's a strike going on!" and I ask what sector 9 times out of 10 it's a fucking teachers strike.
Why can't you admit that the movement has a disease that's eating it alive? It almost farcical how ridiculous this shit is.

The Soviet Union would literally gulag you if you called someone a kike so it sounds to me like those guys are on the right track
Benjamin Lewis
students and academics have always been extremely common, it's not just a recent thing but socialists aren't just soft students or whatever, even now
pretty much exactly this
shut up
Juan Barnes
they would just put you in a really nice gulag, a nice bed, and hard work.
Joseph Ross
In private Stalin used to do an jewish impression on par with stuff that the alt right does.
Teachers aren't bad, but when teachers' strikes make up the majority of strikes you've got a problem.

wow you're a dumbass for TWO reasons now the absolute state of this board
also i'm glad a thread against idpol didn't devolve into Zig Forums level bait this time amirite
Oliver Thompson
i think this shit tends to get blown out of proportion by left-liberals (cancelling) but OP is spewing his own bullshit and misunderstanding of leftist movements too
Sebastian Perry
i was being sarcastic since from the very first post OP was already calling for a discussion for the fucking nigger word
Hudson Powell
socialism is when call people out for saying the n-word with their friends in online video games

oh yeah the "amirite" guess i'm illiterate now

socialism is when you ignore racism and homophobia and accept right-wing myths about socialist movements but really, stop posting on reddit, they're even bigger dumbasses than you

I don't see how this (Albeit flawed) critique of some of Stalins actions is irrelevant because Stalin's successor was the writer of it
It is wrong in the sense that Stalin was never hostile to the concept of a "Jewish Nation" both establishing a Jewish entity in the Soviet Union (Far Eastern Oblast) and acting as the deciding vote on the UNSC to recognise Israel
Jaxson Turner
Because the left was annihilated and "the left" (socdems) betrayed the working class. Students would like to break with the current affairs and don't know how and at the end they end up with a socdem tier organisation.
Henry Gonzalez
You said it yourself, Khrushchev was a notable liar, especially when it came to Stalin.
That's because it was ran by kikes, kinda like the US ZOG Occupied Government is right now, while the goyim starve and are force fed degenecracy. But hey, that's what you get for trusting a jew (lol), that never worked (doublelol), make up a theory about work (triplelol) AND expect them NOT to kike out on everything if not doing that would somehow be bad for jews ( AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA).
Connor Miller
Ideologies go for the young when they’re weak. Not because it works long-term to do so, but because the low standards of inexperienced people are widely understood. Bringing adults in requires better, more innovative arguments.
I read an argument for rent controls recently that was novel enough I want to reshare it. It goes like this: rent controls are as bad for renters as libertarians say, but not everyone rents; rent controls encourage bespoke construction and selling housing rather than managing it as resource extraction.
I think that’s an example of an argument that might upset a socialist academic (the kind of people who help the poor by banning them from jobs with the minimum wage) while appealing to peopke with more developed senses of causality like ordinary laborers.
Brayden Lee
Also, if you’re seriously going around spreading racism in private, you need to be honest enough to stop doing that. Be a better person.
Jaxson Bell
actual laborers and proles hate everything we are about, because everyone they have interacted with useing the words we use and calling themselves by the name we call ourselves, fucking hates them and does everything they can to make things shit for them whenever they get a scrap of power
Lucas Reyes
for real this is a serious problem. The last person a worker wants to have leading them is some faggot who’s job is to steal tens of thousands of dollars from you to teach your child a useless skill.
Grayson Lopez
Nigga, what tf do you think the 70's and 80's was?!
Why do we need this thread all the time? It's not because the blue-collar, metal-working yellow hardhat guys get called racist or see blue-haired people that socialism is completely dead in America, this is reactionary propaganda spread by conservative parties. The left has experienced nothing but extreme opposition and the working class are not enjoying the benefits or time necessary to get politically involved, the factory guy is not committed to socialism because he's been indoctrinated with right-wing bullshit and because they often lack the time and energy because they have to raise children and make sure they can afford college
Not true, working class people are starting to do strikes and join unions, last year the teachers did a walkout which in most cases meant they were compensated more, I wouldn't call necessarily call it class consciousness but it is a step in the right direction.

A group of students calling themselves “socialist” isn’t going to help attract workers.
Joseph Long
I've said this in another thread: it is bad in first-world or imperialist countries, but at least in countries like india, nepal, the philippines, they are still working class movements. or even japan, (whose communist party is admittedly too socdem) where JCP marches seem to be made up of mostly normal-looking middle class workers. In russia, the state of their communists seems to be good, at least in comparison to western europe/the anglosphere.
Kayden Gray

I dunno. I go to D*SA meetings and it's mostly working adults in their late twenties and thirties.
Your luck might vary at your campus Trotskyist organization though.
Because capitalists have effectively co-opted working class organizations and academics are the only ones who remember what it was like before they did this. When workers hear "socialism" they think of either shitty social liberalism or self-serving totalitarianism. Only students know that it refers to a serious political philosophy.

teachers walking out because their wages are shit. They get some meager compensation increase that maybe puts a dent in the 10+ years of wage stagnation but not-so-much into the students loans they're going to be living with

As a student I disagree with both of you.
Many people understand that the situation of the US and the rest of the world is that there is a nightmare-ish wealth distribution and support policy the intends to narrow the divide (eg. medicare-for-all in the US, higher taxes for the rich). There is a war on information waged by the those with power. What we need is re-education. Spur the fire in the hearts of the people for the injustices that is being done to us
