The State and Revolution Chaper 5 Section 2: “Democracy for an insignificant minority, democracy for the rich–that is the democracy of capitalist society. If we look more closely into the machinery of capitalist democracy, we see everywhere, in the “petty”–supposedly petty–details of the suffrage (residential qualifications, exclusion of women, etc.), in the technique of the representative institutions, in the actual obstacles to the right of assembly (public buildings are not for “paupers”!), in the purely capitalist organization of the daily press, etc., etc.,–we see restriction after restriction upon democracy. These restrictions, exceptions, exclusions, obstacles for the poor seem slight, especially in the eyes of one who has never known want himself and has never been inclose contact with the oppressed classes in their mass life (and nine out of 10, if not 99 out of 100, bourgeois publicists and politicians come under this category); but in their sum total these restrictions exclude and squeeze out the poor from politics, from active participation in democracy.

Marx grasped this essence of capitalist democracy splendidly when, in analyzing the experience of the Commune, he said that the oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class shall represent and repress them in parliament!”

The truth revealed is that CAPITALIST "DEMOCRACY" is nothing but an ILLUSION, it is a LIE, and it is used to FOOL the people into thinking they can change anything. Lenin's TEACHINGS washes away these lies. All of us are played like puppets when we devote ourselves to bourgeois politics, none of us are righteous, none of us can do shit; none but only the BOURGEOISIE can control capitalism and by extension the people.

ALL must realize that we cannot simply vote our enemies from power. IT IS A REVOLUTION THAT WILL BRING US SALVATION. REVOLT! The working class is the most powerful group in history. None can stop the power of the people united. The greatest FEAR of the ruling class is that the masses may discover this truth.

What Is To Be Done? Chapter 1, “Without revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary movement. This idea cannot be insisted upon too strongly at a time when the fashionable preaching of opportunism goes hand in hand with an infatuation for the narrowest forms of practical activity.”

We cannot be led astray from the path laid out by out comrades before us. Only through the total victory of the PROLETARIAT over the BOURGEOISIE can we see a new world, a brighter world not corrupted by the greed of capitalism. Have the teachings of communists throughout the ages not predicted the course of capitalist development? Are we not in a constant cycle of crisis? We must ACT before it is TOO LATE. The spirit of Lenin is with us, the whole world rests upon our shoulders. Capitalism is KILLING all it sees. Socialism MUST be victorious. We must not waste our second chance. We have a WORLD to WIN. Sure, did Jones read any marxist theory or was he insane from the very start?

He recommended people read "Introduction to Socialism" by Huberman and Sweezy (the Monthly Review founders.) Beyond that his grasp on Marxism was very simplistic.

As he himself put it, in high school "I got on my soap box for Marx, more Lenin than Marx, I didn’t know that much about Marx at that age. Hell Das Kapital was tough for me. I had to get my Communism by other means."

He then claimed, "I entered Indiana University, and immediately became an activist. Party organizer. Didn’t belong to the Party but I organized people to join the Party. Did a lot of work for the Party. It was decided, I guess by party leadership that I was not to join the Party. I went to a Communist Party meeting, and I don’t remember who it was in the cell organization that suggested that I not join the Party, that I could do more good by not joining."

After that he went his own way, creating a cult and becoming an ordained minister. In California he'd try to build up relations with the CPUSA, but members would attend Peoples Temple services, see him "resurrect" people from the dead, and storm out in anger.
