With the future of Zig Forums and Zig Forums up in the air, what are other good communities? Chans, subreddits, discords, forums you name it.
I'm a working class regular guy that came into the Left, apolitical really, after watching some lectures by Prof. Wolff, which led me to /r/socialism. I read through the starter pack and some recs on their Discord, but never sat quite "right" with them.
After getting a couple Class 2 warnings I had to install Grammarly to underline every instance of 'dumb' or 'stupid' I would accidentally write. Now I try my best to be polite and kind to everyone I meet, so I have no problem changing my language, but sometimes an honest mistake is just that.
Fortunately someone made a post complaining about Chapo, which led me to them and eventually I found /r/stupidpol and read a bunch of Adolph Reed's work and by chance found Zig Forums, who I've come to like (mostly)
It's been quite the trip and I apologize for the blog, but I don't really fit in with the typical Left. They are from another world. I would really love to, because the thought of organizing IRL and having friends and community sounds nice, but I've heard some real horror stories.
I've already planted the seeds so to speak in a couple of buddies, but that's all I can really do. The alienation has me feeling pretty depressed and alone, and I've been drinking a bit too much.
So is your only problem language policing? you will be fine here, sometimes anons bring discussions about other slurs (racial) but you will never have someone shit on you for saying crazy, stupid or bitch, hopefully, i'm not the entire board.
Also if you are interested on finding theory or books you can go to /marx/, Ismail scans lots of books and is quite capable of answering questions in various topics.
Isaac Jones
lol does /r/socialism still have regular posters? We need to revive some long dead shit like RevLeft.
Not really, I mean if for instance if I'm some 1930s granny and call black people 'colored folk', then it might not be out of malice but from ignorance. So it would right to correct that person, and explain how that word hurts someone.
My problem with /r/Socialism is how it's expressed, they talk *down* to you, they're all very cliquish, with power-users and power-mods, special in-group jargon and shibboleths, the general feel I get is one of "keep your guard up" or you will be next. And when you're constantly on guard it's hard to joke around, make friends and that kind of thing.
There's a whole glossary on stupidpol that kind of mocks this stuff, it's a bit crass but I think sums up
Is this a troll? Do you think communism is when people are nice to one another?
Josiah Howard
This is kind of funny.
Christian Rodriguez
Yeah i think you will be fine here, however i warn you the mods are real pieces of shit sometimes, a while ago there was a purge because people were arguing about some US military base on Ro.java and lots of people got banned, the board never really recovered from that. Now it's very easy to get banned if you seem to hold imperialist views, especially regarding Venezuela.
Don't scare potential comrades away you dumbass.
Angel Wilson
No actually communism is when you say nigger faggot.
Tyler Green
Communism is when you abolish social classes. Nothing else matters.
James Stewart
or you could, you know, just leave the left.
Connor Wood
banned and reported and killed by castro for being gay
Evan Stewart
If you left the left, you become ultra-left.
Parker Green
no but seriously, how do you guys counter claims of chauvinism and brocialism?
Nicholas Garcia
Are you pro or anti idpol?
Matthew Jackson
I don't think I shoulder answer since I'm not a marxist and don't know much about it
Mason Miller
should*
Jackson Walker
Then what is your point? do you think there's brocialism on the left or that there's accusations of brocialism on the left that divide it?
Christian Lopez
I'm interested in how you handle accusations of chauvinism and brocialism from today's young generation of lefties
James Garcia
idk what to call myself i just came here to learn more about communism. i read the manifesto and i kinda get it. abolish private property, overthrow the bourgeois and get rid of class, socialism isn't the same as communism which i really don't get, could someone explain the difference?
Luis Rogers
by not engaging in them, those things occur on social media drama.
Joshua Brooks
Honestly it comes up surprisingly little. We've had a few /r/socialism types over the years, but they generally just stay away from here. And I've never encountered this IRL, but I'm also not American.
Anthony Russell
Socialism is simply seen as a lower stage of communism, that's the basic difference.
Isaac Bailey
what makes socialism and communism different?
Wyatt Wright
from a communist's perspective is socialism bad? can democracy and communism coexist?
Aiden Moore
Socialism=Good guys who don't like Stalin Communism=Evil people who want to kill 10000000000000000
Benjamin Lewis
oof
Kevin Edwards
By communists do you mean the bolsheviks or communism as in a stateless classless society?
Angel Bailey
I don't think it's avoidable. I spent a little bit of time volunteering for the Bernie campaign in 2016 and saw firsthand the gap in understanding. The difference in demographics caused tension.
There's definitely a stigma towards appealing to white working class people since they're more likely to be red blooded middle american types.
I also met many communists who thought whites were generally labor aristocrats.
Do you think idpol is the new social-chauvinism? Do you think there's parallels to socialists becoming nationalists in 1914?
Samuel Miller
i'm referring to the latter, wasn't stalin not considered a true communist? isn't there a divide between ☭TANKIE☭s and anarcho-communists, idk im just asking questions here.
Oliver Johnson
Even if Stalin wasn't a communist there is a divide between anarchists and marxist-leninists (basically what the USSR under Stalin was) for obvious reasons. Stalin was a socialist, in my opinion.
Brayden Powell
Sorry for le epic meme, but socialism and communism were historically more or less the same movement, but socialism started becoming a bourgeois movement already in Marx' time Here's from the preface to the communist manifesto
Ryder Reyes
so what about voting? are communists for or against it?
Juan Anderson
Bolsheviks started calling themselves communists to distance from the socialdemocrats who were also considered socialists but they betrayed it between 1914 and 1923
Wyatt Flores
Theres the leftypol telegram i apologize for the shilling (the link is also in leftytrash). I really hope leftypol does not die cause the Aussie shooter t.me/joinchat/Bk5Ovku2Je8JaYpigPj98w
Chase Scott
tbh communism is the truest form of democracy. I think you're confusing liberalism with democracy and also confusing authoritarianism with communism. Communism is classless and stateless and has not yet been achieved. The most important thing regarding communism is assuring that the working class holds the means of production (abbreviated as mop). Nothing else really matters, but the methodology of achieving such a society is where things get complicated, but we all generally agree that the workers should hold absolute control over the means of production.
Depends on the political situation of the country. Marx believed that in countries like Britain, real change could come about through the democratic seizure of the state. Many communists are against voting, but I think that's mostly because they wanna feel extra revolutionary.
Benjamin Robinson
so is voting futile? who should i vote for in the 2020 elections?
If by voting you mean we expect a candidate to reform capitalism, we don't, because no matter how many social safety nets are created, and no matter how many regulations are imposed, without confronting the question of ownership of the means of production there will continue to be class struggle between the capitalists (who make use of the machinery of the bourgeois state to block, diminish, and eventually discard reforms) and the workers. Nor do such reforms address the anarchic nature of capitalist production with its boom and bust cycles and the threats of depressions and imperialist wars.
Jackson Davis
kk
Gavin Baker
so vote communist?
Lincoln Harris
In America you should vote Bernie or Tulsi IMO. Anywhere else in the world, yes, vote communist.
Easton Cook
Zig Forums will end up like Zig Forums but instead of reactionaries flooding the board, Zig Forums will slowly morph like Zig Forums from using slurs like they're okay to becoming a leftist version of Zig Forums, but smaller
Just a prediction I got based on reading the OP
Jeremiah Rogers
that doesn't sound so bad
Christian Gutierrez
It's been going the other way though, newfag. Leftypol used to be far less concerned with using slurs than today. Some might say we grew out of our edgy teen phase.
Dominic Scott
yeah, a gas chamber. don't let the door hit you on the way in, you tranny faggot.
Grayson Phillips
So subtle, Zig Forums.
Easton Davis
Usually we just don't. Those accusations don't really come up here, and when they do we just laugh at them. In other forums and IRL, I personally try to stay friendly and through conversation show I'm not what they think I am. If you give people a little respect and are open to hearing them out, they'll come around or at least stop bothering you. If they don't, I take that as a sign they're a wrecker or the whole scene is a bunch of libs.
Michael Garcia
Yes, although voting itself is not enough to change society
Charles Adams
we get more bigots than liberal idpolers. we deal with both the same way, using materialist analysis. I believe idpol (left and right idpol) is one of the most important topics the left has to overcome so I try to always respond to bigots, right schizoids, and red liberals as best I can. Most people here don't give a shit and ignore the daily idpol thread. I have no advice to give on IRL leftists, from what I've heard most are not as bad as the internet makes them up to be. I personally only know liberals, but I've been trying to read and spread knowledge on how capitalism works amongst my friends with some success.
Hudson Cooper
We don't bother because the claims are absurd, you've said in your own posts that /r/socialism is about cliques more than leftism; anyone who doesn't play along with their games gets some horrible label and shunned. If you're focused on pet issues over economic liberation of the working class then you're not leftist, you're just a barnacle that's attached itself to our hull.
I don't think that user and OP are the same person.
Jason Murphy
please go back to reddit you nigger
Leo Wilson
I wouldn't count on it.
Cooper Morgan
Okay, how the fuck is "cuck" a racist slur?
Leo Watson
P: Zig Forums likes cuckold porn P: Zig Forums likes to think of themselves as 'white' P: cuck is an insult C: cuck is a racist slur against 'white' people
Samuel Ramirez
Yeah maybe Yeah no, Don’t vote for religious fanatic
