Which Linux distribution does leftypol use? Some of the obvious advantages of Linux over the commercial alternatives are - higher security - faster, more customizable - free and open source - community based
I myself prefer Debian-based distros, so that I may apt-get purge kulak softwares.
Void It is aimed at people somewhat familiar with Linux, as the documentation still isn't that great. For most things you can use the Gentoo or Arch wiki and then adapt it for Void.
Linux: - Full of holes and unpatched vulnerabilities along with backdoors. - Slow and bloated - GPLv2 with proprietary blobs. - Corporate developped
OpenBSD: - Architecturally built for security, patched as soon as an issue is discovered. - Fast and lightweight. - Permissive license with no proprietary firmware. - Community-based absolute meritocracy.

It's a meme. No. Who cares? We're talking about desktops. I agree.

I like Debian GNU, it is widely adopted and does the one goddamned job that it was designed to do.

Linux mint, because i heard from it another person that is light. I don't know much about linux in general.
Intel Core Duo L2400 1.66GHz + 3GB ram. Should i switch to another os?
Kevin Ross
You can try Lubuntu, MX Linux or Peppermint OS they are more lightweight than mint while retaining its user friendliness. But if you are happy with your linux mint installation, you should stick with it, don't fall for distro hopping.

Thank you.

Arch.
technically antergos cuz I don't want to install all that shit, but I love the ecosystem and community*
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Arch really isn't that hard. At the end you just end up with a systemd distro which leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth. Those images must be made by reddit because I've never had to compile anything with it.
Parker Flores
Can we have a decent leftist version of this pasta? Something like "I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Leninism, is in fact, Marxism-Leninism, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Marxism plus Leninism."
Distros are nearly identical to each other. Like 95% of the code is the same.

Allready loving this thread.
Tell me, comrade faggots, which torrent sites do you visit in order to pirate native linux games?
For me, it's rutracker.org – even tho I don't speak russian. They upload regularly native games and pre-made vulkan enviro wine games, which only require me to double click to run.
QT stuff is the worse if you aren't using a real desktop it won't use the real file picker and gives you a shit old one instead.

Mint is antizionist made by GNU Gang
Jaxson Nguyen
Good God if your going to chat shit at least provide reasoning.

Manjaro because I like the AUR
Levi Gomez
are you using leftypol through cdrom?
Ryan Perez
Arch, but I don't do anything fucking stupid like post on /r/unixporn or "rice". It's just what I'm most comfortable on now and it's perfectly stable.
AUR requires compiling for a lot of things, but its not that slow with 2019 hardware.
Colton Peterson
Have you tried pamac to install packages fro the AUR? It's really great. It's a GUI tool for installing package from Manjaro but it obviously works for arch too as they both use pacman.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Leninism, is in fact, Marxism-Leninism, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Marx plus Lenin. Lenin is not a worldview unto itself, but rather another addition for a fully functioning Marxist view made useful by materialist philosophy, political economy and scientific socialism comprising a fully formed theory as defined by Marx and Engels.
Many proletarians apply a modified version of the Marxist view every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Marxism which is widely used today is often called "Leninism", and many of its applicants are not aware that it is basically the Marxist system, developed by Marx and Engels.
There really is a Leninism, and these people are applying it, but it is just a part of the system they apply. Leninism is the elaboration: the addition to the system that allocates the proletariat's unanswered questions to their rightful reconciliation. The elaboration is an essential part of the Marxist theoretical system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of the complete system. Lenin is normally used in combination with Marx: the whole system is basically Marxism with Leninism added, or Marxism-Leninism. All the so-called "Leninist" socialists are really socialists of the Marxist-Leninist variation.

It has lxde and mate out of the box. BLOAT.
So you just use the one default terminal? What a chad.
I'm using an IBM ThinkPad x200. I run Windows 10 on my desktop since I share it with people who need Windows for some reason, but if I had it to myself I would run arch on that to, and it has a $400 GPU.
The problem with bloated distros isn't just the increased load average, it's also that you have to remove a bunch of packages to get it outfitted in a way that is actually usable.
I prefer to use Debian on my servers. I use Windows on my PC. I'd like to change that but all my data and shit is on here and I can't afford another drive to transfer it all to.
Gabriel Wright
You could just reduce your NTFS data-partition size and install Linux or whatever else on a new partition.
debian all the way. it takes a while to customize and the debian team doesn't like synaptic for some reason (there's a thick known bug since at least 2017 nobody takes care of and in the newest testing release synaptic doesn't even start), however otherwise it's rock solid and fast under gnome, faster than ubuntu even. i also still use macos and windows though.
Nicholas Campbell
GNU Stow is pretty great I found. Basically a folder where you put all the dotfiles you want, and it links them to their proper places via symlinks. Make it a git repo and setting up your environment like you want is as simple as git cloning and stowing. I've stopped distrohopping a few years back, so don't find myself having to set my shit up again and again, but this makes it easy to go and do that if it came to it. But it does take time to figure out what you want to customize and how to in the first place, had to run linux as my main OS for a year or two until I got it down, it's my only OS now.
Eli Perry
How hard is it to type "apt update" really?
Blake Taylor
What's Zig Forums informed opinion on systemd.
Parker Harris
Based and Poetterpilled.
Eli Smith
so you like typing and if apt update is the only thing you use your package manager for you might as well renounce desktop environments altogether and work in cli mode all the time. i for one do need a gui for certain applications and i like synaptic because it provides a much more convenient interface for most package management tasks than apt.
i would prefer debian as my only os, but i use some commercial software and hardware whose devs apparently either hate linux or don't care about linux users.
Jose Rivera
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Socialism, is in fact, a strong state plus capitalism, or as I've recently taken to calling it, social democracy. A strong state is not socialist unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning socialist society, as made useful by the socialist mode of production and abolishment of private property and wage labour, comprising a socialist society as defined by Marx.
Many so-called democratic socialists campaign for a modified version of capitalist society every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of capitalism sought after by these people is often called "Socialism", and many of the campaigners are not aware that it is basically a capitalist society, as made evident by the capitalist mode of production.
There really is socialism, and there are people striving for it, but social democratic societies are not socialist. The state is an essential part of a socialist society, but not socialist by itself; it is only socialist in the context of a complete socialist economy. The state is in this case used in combination with a capitalist mode of production: the whole system is basically capitalism with strong social safety nets added, or social democracy. The so-called "socialist" societies like Venezuela or Scandinavia are really just social democratic.
Hunter Powell
I campaign for social democracy myself but I don't honestly believe it should be the end goal. I don't think it's the best possible system. I just think it's the most feasibly attainable one in my country (the US.) I feel like some people think if social democracy is achieved people will be happy enough with it that they give up on anything better than that. But I feel like it will open the door to more left wing ideas and help to undo decades of red scare brain washing bullshit.
Owen Hall
I want to free myself from the Windows chain but Arch and other distros scare me. Am I a massive bitch if I decide to just use something like Ubuntu or Mint.
Ethan Foster
You gotta learn somehow. I'm actually back on it after doing the distrohopping routine, since things you learn are transferable.
Gabriel Sullivan
No of course not. You can easily go for Linux Mint either Mate or Cinnamon edition, Ubuntu Mate or even MX Linux if you want to try Debian without the hassle of configuring it. Just avoid Ubuntu vanilla.
Logan Martin
Torrented windows XP on a stolen laptop

Has to be Parabola. All of the perks of Arch, but entirely free and privacy-conscious in all areas bar the AUR. Couple it with Libreboot and you have yourself a computer that you own yourself in all aspects.
Wyatt Fisher
Like I said, I can probably fit Gentoo on there.
Parker Smith
I've never seen such a weird modular system. Is this just an old standard for laptop components or is this an proprietary system by IBM?
Aiden Torres
I use Arch but only because I prefer the way they handle package management and the AUR. There's really no reason to use a "harder" distro like Arch, it's all personal preference.
Jaxson Williams
Try running a recent Linux kernel (5.0+) with less than 16MB of memory. Even most kernel images are larger than this. Not even talking about running some bloated python-based package manager like Portage or even trying to build @system with GCC.
I'm on Ubuntu-GNOME and it's the best Linux experience I've ever had (been "trying" it out on and off since 2006 at least).
Evan Green
I cant run recent kernel on it but I can install gentoo on it.
Anthony Ramirez
Well, if you like it, good for you, it's just that I don't like GNOME nor Canonical.
Lucas Wood
What's the point in installing Gentoo on the HDD if you can't even run it? As I said, Linux is already too much bloat for toasters like the 486, even without accounting for memory issues, it would just be too slow.
Xavier Harris
Start off with antergos as your Arch distro.
Jack Anderson
And if you meant memes like Gentoo/*BSD or even Gentoo/Hurd, they wouldn't work either.
Well nice job poisoning the well for everyone not well versed in Loonix and interested in trying out the most popular distro with the most popular desktop environment.
