They're journalists and hosts of the podcast "Moderate Rebels". Max also runs a website called "the grayzone" I believe. As has been alluded to in this thread already, they used to be sort of pro-establishment liberals, but for as long as I've followed their work they have focused on criticizing american foreign policy, Israel, and debunking regime change narratives around Syria, Venezuela, Nicaragua, etc. They were recently in Venezuela and before that Blumenthal was in Nicaragua.
They rarely talk about their own political ideology or "tendency" (which is a good thing and a sign they aren't mentally ill twitter leftists) but I've listened to their podcast for a while and it's pretty clear that they're commies imo. Just off the top of my head I've heard them speak positively about Marxism, Cuba, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Leila Khaled and the Sandinistas. And there's an episode where they bash pro-war trotskyists which turned into some kind of historical overview and critique of western trotskyism from a Leninist/ML standpoint. youtube.com
