Facebook - like some other social media sites, for example Instagram - present the consumer a functioning, but manufactured social life. Although there are connections to one's real life, it is basically a simulation.
So the first thing it does is that it tries to separate the consumer from its social life. The individual worker should not have a chance to connect with his peers and organize any actions against the ruling class.
Secondly, it tries to enforce capitalist principles in all brutality on the consumer with ads and alike.
So we see a clear line of development in relation to how Facebook has an effect on the consumers/proletariat, as you said, it acts like a drug.
In the beginning there is the entertainment seeking, curious consumer, then one changes over time, one gets desensitised and loses their connection to the struggling community. The revolutionary movement is replaced with the virtual reality of Facebook and co.
In the end, there is no unity anymore in the worker's class, there will only be many individual secluded consumers inclined to buy anything they get offered.

I don't know if you have noticed OP, but Facebook is in steep decline. Millenials have stopped using it around 2015 and Zoomers never even picked it up. These days it's only been used by boomers, the rest just uses it for organising meet-ups or selling/buying used stuff in your city. The reason for this is the absolutely shitty privacy policy of Facebook, you constantly have to nervous that your employer and partner sees an inconvenient photo of you somebody after 4 years decided to tag you in, you can't customise your privacy settings for photos and your friendlist, there is literally nobody in the world who can run a complete, active profile without constantly being worried that people see incriminating shit. It's toxic and gets on people's nerves, so they have stopped using it once it became less of an ostracism to not have it (around 2016/2017).
