This will probably be the only real problem mentioned in this thread, the rest will be teen twerking or mentions of d.egeneracy

Do you want to kill me?

From time to time we have to be reminded why we fight comrade. It's things like this which should drive us to try and build a better world

I would go so far as to say you have to be 21 to buy an iPad or smart phone tbh

You're misunderstanding the point of this thread m8. I wanted examples of how chaos in the base creates what could be called "decadence" in the superstricture. You don't think the hyper consumerism and so on on display in several of these links not to mention the hyper poverty in the 3rd world that fuels it is just as troubling as children with iPads and is as "irrelwvant" as teen twerking?

I'd say this is not a problem of the technology as much as the cancerous nature of mobile apps.

The technology was literally made with apps in mind

< poor living in graveyards

honestly i've been homeless in the US for over 8 years and as a last ditch effort to try to secure 6 ft of space i can rest my head at at night i was going to start a gofundme to try to buy some graveyard land and build a tomb for myself in it. good to know 'm not the only one this fucked on the planet.

You can make the technology do anything. It's a rectangle with a touchscreen on it.
If we wanted to we could create brilliant things for kids to do on it. For-profit apps don't do that. They attract kids with advertising tricks and deliver a half-assed product.

no shit sherlock

No it wasn’t. The Internet was made by the US military as a communication tool, under Regan, Bush Sr, and Clinton, the tech was privatized to make PCs a profitable commodity to sell. This is how the internet was created.

that’s gotta be fucking brutal

build a tomb to live in right?

the furry fandom
it's not the sexual element. there are plenty of deviants on the internet and in the world at large, but i don't know of a community more commercially infested than the furry fandom. it's easy to overlook though because there are little to no big companies in that area, but the mixture of small and single person enterprises, operating in a market, where your consumption choices decide whether people eat and where your hobby becomes a product has to be tailored to market demands leads to something truly reprehensible. it's only going to spread outwards to other internet communities with time. furry is just the vanguard due to a disproportionate level of well paid people and a disproportionately large pornographic section. (just as it lead the way for e-commerce, it's leading the way in this ) i'll refrain from a longer, more winding description of all my objections. all that i wish is that people would understand the market dynamics at play rather than focusing on viewing it through the old prudes v perverts lens.

having stared into this abyss, i find my day can be ruined immediately by catching a furry avatar (doubtless bought) in a random comment section. i do not have the disposable income to play this upcoming game, and even if i did i simply do not have the mindset to do so. somehow i have lived a deluded life where this sort of thing was completely invisible until it was inevitable. the commercialisation was obvious, yes, but it always seemed like it would follow the typical top-down structures of business, never move into a bottom up or horizontal fashion. i wish i could unsee it all.

maybe this post is too long and boring. there isn't even really a fun horror in realising it, the sort of disgusted shock-amusement you get when brands try to be personable. it's like a mental tooth-ache.

I'm glad i'm doing conservation projects soon so i can wash my hands of the past few years (young high school/middle school years) i've spent on this hellish website learning about the finer points of the jewish question and (drawn) child porn. but my hands, they will never be clean, a permanent stain on my life that will haunt me no matter how deep into the forest i retreat from it, no matter how many workplaces i end up organizing, no matter how many of Tolstoy's soothing words I wrap myself in.
I will go to hell. Every day I live I go to hell.

I'm glad my dad's incessent leftism has saved me from the hitler youth indoctrination mind virus before i ended up doing another christchurch, but he has now said "chud" and "mask off" out loud and so i fear every day, for the day he finds cumtown and asks me to be gay with him.
I will go to hell.

Please snap.

Furrydom is not driven by the commercial aspect of it though, you mong. The furry fandom's commercial aspect happens because it is not created by a centralized, mass-produced source, meaning that the barrier of entry to start getting on the market for furry product (BECAUSE WE LIVE UNDER CAPITALISM, EVERYTHING WILL BE IN THE FORM OF MARKETS ON A BROAD SCALE) is almost nil, meaning that anyone who can get even a semi-regular internet connection is now capable of attempting to start hawking their personally-made wares with nothing in general to drive people out by the creation of productive capital, on the whole, the furry community has been particularly resistant to the development of capital because of the demand for small scale personalized product.

What this means, you absolute moron, is that the furry fandom has been particularly anticapitalist, you even admit that yourself that it does not follow traditional capitalist developmental periods. The reason that commercialization of furrydom has gone further over the last few years is because niggas be poor because neoliberalism has been leeching off the lower and middle classes of the first world and it's been leaking into even their escapist fantasies..

black guy grills homeless guy for his "white privilege"

I'm honestly agreeing more with than .

Sexual deviants organizing in a non-hierarchical way over the internet is a left-wing evolution rather than a right-wing one. You always find left-wing forms of organization in spaces the corporate market cannot fill. Torrents are another example of it. As is Wikipedia.

What I would point out is that the furry fandom is still a fandom, not an independent cultural movement in its own right. It positions itself with respect of certain capitalist intellectual properties, even if it does this in a more generalized way than most fandoms do. Furries emerge out of the funny animals scene, dedicated to worshiping popular capitalist figures such as those of Disney and Warner Bros.
I imagine that if furries were leftist not only in form but also in content, they would be a lot less cringy.

I really hate how successful the US government and the public relstions industry was in completely destroying class consciousness among black people after the 1960s.

This happens with other races, including white people in the form of the simulacra of modern country music, but the strategy was first tested on blacks

As ever, retarded idealists can not figure out why shit in a capitalist economy costs money.

Next you're going to say that sex workers are just as exploited as Amazon warehouse people and call anyone who disagrees an idealist

Is this the part where you whine about how sexual labor has no value despite the fact that there is a very real monetary market for it?

Actually, let's skip that part and go to the real issue here. Are you going to tell me that capitalism bad because pork man bad or because it's feeding the uncontrolled development of unliving things at the cost of humanity?

Sex work only has value because people enjoy seeing and fucking tits and ass and its becoming exceedingly difficult to do so in a non-market based fashion due to the atomization everyone lives in now. I'm not a moralfag but the majority of 1st world sex workers are just prostituting themselves to have some throwing around money and taking advantage of horny lonely guys with too much disposable income to get it. If sex work disappeared over night there would be literally no change at all except maybe people would have to jack off more to satisfy their urges.

It's literally the same as saying a cop or a troop are part of the proletariat because they are doing labor. It's assinign liberal drivel now fuck off back to r/anarchism faggot

Your argument is that furries and furshit fandom are anticapitalist and not something that only exists due to capitalism's nature of creating bullshit jobs and culture to fill the void left when social necessary labor evaporates. That's why all of this bullshit didn't start until deindustrialization and has only accelerated as capital becomes perpetually more transient and virtual.

This is how commodities work. You shitwaffle.
Wow gee you mean when supply becomes restricted things no longer are free?

My argument is that the commercialization of the furry subculture is due to capitalist developments that drive people out of stable work and into an area that has almost zero capital barrier to entry unlike even holding down standard day jobs. You can not explain the existience of furries existing due to "bullshit jobs".

Lol so you are from r/socialism huh?

Okay dude. Kapital. Chapter one, LITERALLY THE VERY FIRST FEW PARAGRAPHS.

Furries may exist in communism. Who knows.
Whores will not, because having a whore predicates the concept of commodifying a person's body, and communism does away with commodification of use-valued things. That is the definition of abolishing the law of exchange.

You realize that sex workers literally can't exist in communism right? You can type all caps and quote the book you started today and have read one chapter of at me all day but by definition sex work can't be a part or communist society.

You could argue that furshits and other weird sexcults could and would which is probably true and I'm fine with it but they'd be such a tiny fraction of the population that people would probably forget they're even there. Whereas in capitalism the market needs to constantly attempt to normalize and rationalize their obvious conflict with the way the majority of society behaves and interacts with each other to continue profiting off their novelty and new dimension as an expanded consumer base.

If you want to be a furshit fine and if you want to fuck a million people great, communism would make it easier to do both of these things. But blanket defense of the negative traits of these things, particularly by pretending they're somehow intrinsically even more radical than the struggle of actual working class people (who the vast majority of furries and sex workers categorically are not) is just a bunch of bullshit

I get the sense you're projecting when you call us idealists and act as if we're the ones misunderstanding Marx tbh. You seem to be an insecure furshit yourself who gets mad when someone makes fun of his inherently retarded subculture and to feel better you have some need to actually make it the hero and everyone else the bad people.

either way stop defending furshit and go back to reddit

I'm getting very tired of genuinely retarded pseuds on leftypol calling themselves "leftist" because they're basically pulling a "triggered liberal?" while being unable to accurately voice the concept of value.

Congrats, smoothbrain, you agreed that sex labor has value because it is a marketed commodity.

You're defending things which are only perpetuated by capital for its self preservation as anticapitalist and you call me the smooth brain

Furshit destroys minds huh?
Also
Keep saying the quiet part loud

You have yet to show that you can coherently describe how commodity valuation works and repeatedly describe how commodities values don't actually exist if they trigger your feels.

Your argument is that furries are anticapitalist because they're weird and that sex workers are the same as people who just enjoy having sex and that defending both is a worthwhile pursuit

Keep trying to turn this into a debate about how I misunderstand Marx because you don't want to take the mask off but this whole thing started because you said furries are anticapitalist which is empirically an untrue statement.

Congratulations, you're an illiterate.

Lol for a pure rationalist scientific materialist you sure are mad I insulted furshits

You genuinely misunderstand Marx because you're incapable of generalizing the process of capital development from human labor to mass productive machinery for the purposes of creating surpluses that are fed into reproduction of machinery, and seem to be incapable of understanding how a market that demands personalized small scale production across the entire board is going to, in itself be resistant to the process of mass production in and of itself. You also get enormously butthurt that a commodities market remains a commodities market despite you making some arbitrary distinction between necessary and unnecessary commodities markets. You also for some genuinely incomprehensible reason take the fact that abolishing commodities makes a commodity stop being a commodity as "proof" that the commodity never had value despite the fact that you're literally reverting to a tautology to prove yourself. Do you think Amazon marketing center workers produce no value because there won't be a need for marketing when commodities markets are abolished?

I really am only gonna state this one more time and I'm fucking off.
You. Have. No. Concept. Of. Capitalism. As. A. Process. Of. Capital.

This is how I know it isn't even worth responding to what you wrote in earnest because I literally said I did near the beginning of this entire exchange.

I'm glad you read chapter one of das Kapital though man, keep reading it and maybe you'll actually understand it one day

Then you are flat out wrong.

ah yes, neoliberalism is leaking into furry but also it's anti-capitalist.

i might have to come back to this post. it's painfully bad. not as bad as the pamphlet that guy (probably you tbh) handed out at conventions making a similar argument (non-corporate capitalism is communism!), but still woeful.
in future please refrain from trying to bend the rules of reality to hide that the thing you like is bad.

'non hierarchical' isn't really the right way to put it. furry is a ridiculously hierarchical community, the hierarchy just isn't official. (in part, perhaps, because we lack the language to articulate it.) a community so driven by money cannot be non-hierarchical. it is precluded immediately by the fact the more money you have available, the more status you can buy for yourself.

no money, no product? in many other communities you've got a fighting chance (especially media fandoms, where piracy is an option). in furry, you're fucked.

Did this actually happen lmao?

It is entirely possible to make your way through things without any money so long as you can build reputation well enough.

This is news to me, seeing as I'm living in a fur house where
Oh, and seeing as the majority of my online furry friends are actually in similar situations, I really want to know about how we're "petit bourgeoisie" whilst also at risk of being evicted for being unable to pay rent while working factory jobs, with no income from property assets.

Again, people are searching for places to produce money because they need to pay their fucking bills, and there is market for furry art

also
Did I ever argue that the furry fandom exists as communism?

this is a stupid argument. a large number of people aspire to be furry artists because despite any financial troubles it brings, it means being able to "make your hobby your job" which seems less terrible than going off to work at mcdonalds or northrop grumman (of course, you're now going to be drawing the fursonas of the warcrime designers at northrop grumman) if you don't consider the detrimental second-order impacts on your hobby.

if furries exist in communism, the community structure would be so wildly different from today that it would practically be a different fandom entirely.
the subject matter is not inherently capitalist, but the structures of community organisation are and will have to go.

it's entirely possible to make yourself rich if you pull yourself up by your bootstraps in theory. i can point to tens of people who've done it. :)
let's not go down this road, i'm depressed enough about the way we socialise as it is.

see, this is your problem. you take "furry is a capitalist fandom" to mean "all furries are capitalists"
imagine i had said "america is a capitalist country", would you regale me with tales of woe from the poor starving immigrants as proof that actually, america isn't capitalist? you're letting your identification with a subculture overtake rational class analysis. something doubly ironic considering that if you aren't just making things up, a restructuring of the fandom would be in your interests.
you can say the same about any small business owner you mong.
if furry isn't capitalist, what is it? go on, give an answer that isn't sophistry or laughable.

Not debating this.

You do not have to purchase your way to status in the furry fandom at all though. A significant number of people I know who have quite a bit of status are actually quite poor and a lot of people who continuously buy their way into things are widely reviled. Now, I'm not going to argue that there is no overlap between status and money, there absolutely is, but it's not at all a perfect correlation.

Every artist I know severely dislikes the financial aspect of being an artist for money and several have said that if they were in better position for work they'd stop trying to do art for money.

This is something I argue though.

This goes to the level of calling the lumpenproletariat the petit bourgeoisie.
It's a subculture that exists under and is heavily influenced by capitalism which I already stated in my very first post. The very fact that there is a broad commodities market within the fandom shows this, however, it also resists the move towards the development of capital because it is heavily decentralized. I actually mean that it is resistant to the multiplication of human labor through use of capital.

what the fuck is going on in here

Attached: d9a56264c129eb75f32c274e43b35ebcec037e16a9352c6d25d502cfdbb9fb39.jpg (532x342, 28.99K)

If we're going to reduce all of capitalism down to "hurr stuff sells on a market" then the art sales that is very common among furries, sure, is capitalist. But this is the most vulgar possible interpretation of "capitalism" possible that guts the materialist criticism of capitalism of the actual important part where we actually look at the recycling of value in the creation of capital.

This. The entire point of the concept of late capitalism is that as the ability of companies to secure profits dwindles due to market saturation, automation, falling rate of profit, or declining resources, they must turn to increasingly bizarre methods. New and strange things become commodified in new and strange (and increasingly totalitarian) ways, resulting in a grown as man breaking down at a movie based on comic books for children.

in the interest of paring things down from walls of text in the hope of salvaging the thread:
on costs: conventions are fucking expensive too. i just wanted to mention that. they're not mandatory, but they're indicative. (actually the price of everything is indicative.)
I would hope it would be noncontentious to differentiate your experience from the average member of the fandom.
now for the theory point:
furry may resist the development of capital, but just like copper wire has some degree of electrical resistance, it does not overcome it as other communities (imageboards being a good example) largely do on an internal level.

a computer and a drawing tablet can be capital equipment if turned to the production of commodities, which art produced for exchange undoubtedly is. computerisation even allows for a degree of mass production as can be seen with the stratospheric rise of the YCH.

there are two ways of viewing this. one is that it's the future of capitalism. a more bespoke product, a less commercial view, an apparently human face. the uberisation of community. the other is that it's purely reactionary and that may be worse. less apparent in art (digital commodities are weird), the viscerally negative reaction to the idea of mass-produced fursuits reflects the class interests of the small artisan group that currently produces an expensive, bespoke product, (and in social-value terms, the class interests of their monied customers) deeply opposed to an affordable product of more consistent quality being made available to the masses.
then you have obvious actual capital development/interactions like bad dragon, printed comics, stickers, badges, books, t-shirts, etc. they may not be corporate, but they're equally on the road to mass production and steady, inefficient capital accumulation.

late capitalism

the one mistake i'll accept i made is insufficiently separating my economic objections from my social objections. my social critique of furry economy goes thus:
furry doesn't engage with capitalism in a way that gels with a very basic sort of egalitarianism that is desirable in communities like this. in most fandoms around a specific media product or type of product, you can pirate the product itself and engage with the community as a comparative equal with others. everyone is 'equal' before the creator of the product. this can't happen to the same degree in something like furry, leading to greater inequalities. furry is by-and-large inward looking towards products produced within the fandom, rather than outward looking. your involvement with the community is going to be remarkably limited if all you did is pirate robin hood.

furry eliminates the obvious barrier between producers and consumers. this is 'less hierarchical' at first glance, but it's a very californian ideology type of absence of hierarchy that stands to greatly disadvantage the average person. a lot of these problems are rooted in income inequality rather than inequality of capital, but the structural design decisions taken by the fandom itself (in part due to the social makeup of the fandom, with a high number of well-paid nerds) lead things down this path.

Fucking thank you for actually getting to this. Unfortunately I need to start getting ready for work. I'll talk later.

67.
The satisfaction which no longer comes from the use of abundant commodities is now sought in the recognition of their value as commodities: the use of commodities becomes sufficient unto itself; the consumer is filled with religious fervor for the sovereign liberty of the commodities. Waves of enthusiasm for a given product, supported and spread by all the media of communication, are thus propagated with lightning speed. A style of dress emerges from a film; a magazine promotes night spots which launch various clothing fads. Just when the mass of commodities slides toward puerility, the puerile itself becomes a special commodity; this is epitomized by the gadget. We can recognize a mystical abandon to the transcendence of the commodity in free gifts, such as key chains which are not bought but are included by advertisers with prestigious purchases, or which flow by exchange in their own sphere. One who collects the key chains which have been manufactured for collection, accumulates the indulgences of the commodity, a glorious sign of his real presence among the faithful. Reified man advertises the proof of his intimacy with the commodity. The fetishism of commodities reaches moments of fervent exaltation similar to the ecstasies of the convulsions and miracles of the old religious fetishism. The only use which remains here is the fundamental use of submission.

How do you buy this status? Are you imagining that the alpha-furry is the one with the most expensive fur-suit?
I don't see how this would function within the furry fandom. Say you want to publish some perverted comic involving animals. As far as I can tell, all you need is a drawing tablet, a pirated copy of Photoshop, and a FurAffinity account to realize it. If you're able to draw well, you'll be successful, whether you monetize it or not. Hardly capital intensive.
Is there something I'm missing?

good thread. shame on the posters who derrail the thread. take your bickering to the trash thread.

You got it all wrong, sweatshops are actually good. (wonder who is behind this op-ed)

Commission lots of art > people recognise you.
Quantity has a quality all of it's own. You can definitely go overboard with repetition and piss people off, but you'll invariably get sycophants. Simply buying a suit is also an option for getting comparatively easy attention by posting pictures or videos of you doing stuff in it. It doesn't have to be the most expensive, or even expensive for a suit because suits are inherently an expensive thing.
Then you have a product you can provide. That line was in reference to the average person with no money and no artistic or (hobbyist) manufacturing talent being fucked. The community structure isn't built on discussion (like Zig Forums for example) or on a DIY mindset where trying to make things yourself regardless of your low talent level is appreciated.

idk if this is the thread for it, i just thought this was comical

Thread about what? Woke Capitalism?

Would it be wrong to call this guy a nigger?

It would be adequate.

t. never interacted with a wikipedo

Coon would be a better word for the context of the situation. For real, it’s a Porky dude blabbering about “muh nation” to someone in extreme poverty. Sounds like what some rich white racist guy might do in the 50s.

As a nigger I find that highly offensive.

Why do pseuds love all this vaporwave faggoty so much?

So, LSC thread, then?

Anyway, there are too damn many things to hate on this gay Earth in this gay time, but I'll try to keep to less-posted stuff. Starting with something certified fresh from America's butthole.

For fuck's sake. I wouldn't put it past Porky to try to somehow foster depression in order to get people to eat more.

How long tell conservatives start calling for nationalization of social media? I give it a decade.
