I often wonder about an alt-history where to placate the 13 colonies the British government gives a bunch of democratic concessions to the settlers and the federal system envisioned by the founding fathers is pretty much applied to the British Empire. The United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand just become additional states as those regions are colonised, and we keep the smaller regions and islands as unincorporated territories. I dunno I like the idea of an Imperial Federation type thing.

I wonder about an alt-history where the English won at Hastings. The Norman influence has been around since Edward the Confessor but what if Godwinson won, and the English nobility and English laws stayed in place? They were a lot more egalitarian and free than the ones the Normans put in place. Plus would you have a more orthodox english church? Makes me wonder
