He is good for people who are curious about guns and shooting sports. Basically, a good first step.

As for the complaints, many come across as jealousy since he has his own personal range and access to various firearms due to connections to gun store owners.

Others fail to understand the strategy and tactics of the NRA and base their criticisms on decades old legislation their leadership at the time initially supported. The truth is the NRA has defended the 2nd Amendment greatly especially since having the ATF handle the "bump stock" debate held back Congress from passing sensationalist laws after the Las Vegas incident.

I never understood Zig Forums's fascination with him. Granted he's a lot less cancerous and obnoxious than the average Youtuber on any subject, but information wise his videos are pretty poor. Don't get me wrong, he gives some pretty useful advice, but it's few and far in between and with videos being many and long it's a tiny fraction of his screen time. Most of it is just spent idly shooting without instructing the viewer in markmanship in a useful way, and when he isn't shooting he's being very longwinded about things that might as well have not been a Youtube video. The sheer volume of videos with little organization makes it difficult to use his channel for any sort of systematic learning or for buying advice. Paul Harrell's videos for instance are much more informative, get to the point, he often demonstrates tactical or ballistic principles when shooting rather than just shooting for the sake of shooting, and he has informative videos to the tune of "what gun to get" (where he doesn't recommend specific guns, but gives good advice that would help a newbie be less overwhelmed). Most of hickok's repertoire is "hey let's shoot this random gun and while I ramble on about god knows what" times a thousand.

I thought his apolitical, private manner was supposed to be read as secretly being Zig Forums tier, but his cucking completely disproves that. All this probably comes across very critical, but I like the guy as a person, and I don't mind watching one of his vids when I stumble on it. But I also wouldn't go out of my way to watch him, since it's not that information dense.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the National Rifle Association. The tactics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the Bill of Rights most of them will go over a typical American's head. There's also the GOP's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their party- their personal philosophy draws heavily from Trotskyist literature, for instance. The life members understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these concessions, to realize that they're not just protecting our rights- they are making sure we keep our rights to own guns only for sport! Understand the enemy and his tactics. They fight with propaganda, both obvious and not obvious, they fight very hard to create narratives and images in people's minds. Very hard. They need control of narratives and flows of information for this to be mostly effective, they don't want dissent, but worse they don't want genuine images of truth that contradict that narrative. They don't like small images of views of reality that contradict this narrative. They really don't like the fact there is an old guy making videos with machine guns that defies and contradicts this image and narrative and has millions of subscribers.

Slow and heavy swings the big hammer. The 45-70 blackpowder didn't have hydrostatic shock and didn't always get the lightning quick kills of today's high power rifles. But the big old bullet, well placed, always punched deep and bled out the animal, even if it ran off thinking it could live. Hickcok isn't getting non gun owners to buy guns and "join up", he's not destroying gun control with powerful messages. But he is making weapons look like family friendly fun, non scary, taking the mystical nature of guns away for many, worst of all setting up the Fudd image that good natured normies enjoy shooting and owning weapons too. Watching him shoot at bottles with an Uzi while driving a tractor is just laid back fun. Bringing back the "good ol" American classical family based gun culture. He disarms the anti gun narrative by being a popular living contradiction.

They fight for control of an image, they try to suppress gun owners into not admitting they are gun owners, trying to make "respectable" people hide their ownership, to disappear as much as possible from public view. The local principle, pastor, teacher, community leader nonchelantly letting people know they are owners and users of these weapons in a calm way does more to bend their fake narrative to hell than almost anything else. When respectable upstanding NORP's represent their auto loading rifles the same way as their old bolt action rifles and pump shotguns, as part of normal healthy respectable Americana, it makes the whole "…bitterly holding onto their guns and religion" statements as damaging to themselves as possible.

He is calm, steady, he is palatable and acceptable to almost everyone. Without trying he is forcing people to view things in a way they don't want you to view it from. That's all he does? Good. That's all it takes to damage their narrative.

He put some redneck on blast on facebook because he brought a confederate flag to a rally, and I commented how his status-signalling isn't going to convince anyone who wants to ban guns, because it won't.

Not the best gun reviewer there is… however, because he enjoys almost every single gun he gets his hands on, if he has anything negative to say about a particular firearm, it's probably a piece of shit.
