But they can't blame themselves, so cognitive dissonance sets in. This is also why they absolutely hate people who carry, because it confronts them with the reality of their powerlessness.
The solution? Either man up and take responsibility for your own self protection, or take as many guns away from as many people as possible. If a bunch of hicks and rednecks get WACO'd, who cares? They would never own a gun, so it's no skin off their nose.
