Can I get a quick rundown on the GOC, and why they are heretics?

They're Old Calendarists, no longer in communion with the Orthodox Church after the clumsy switch to the new calendar in the 1900s. All their original bishops were self-ordained or excommunicated so the clergy they have are invalid. Nowadays, the calendar issue is more window dressing and they remain outside the Church because they're mad that the Ecumenical Patriarch (AKA the Patriarch of Constantinople, the foremost bishop in the Orthodox Church) participates in ecumenist meetings with other Christian denominations.
Old Believers tend to be hyper-zealots and their communities are famous for liturgical autism. Services they have generally use every single prayer and hymn without even the slightest of omissions, meaning they're long even by Orthodox standards.

tl;dr – they're Nicene Christians. Not really 'heretics' in the Mormon or JW sense, just Orthodox schismatics.

The presence of divergent religious groups seems to be an inherent consequence of civil development. Chaotic rouge states like Somalia and Afghanistan under the Taliban probably have less of a problem keeping these to a minimum. It may also lend support to the ideas of higher religiosity coinciding with greater backwardness. Just an observation though.

As someone who is currently a catechumen in the orthodox church, I think this thread's TC is being unfair and doesn't represent any orthodox I've met.

Never met any orthodox who thinks it's their jobs to decide where the Holy Spririt is and is not, or where the invisible church is and is not.

Well yes, they're heretics from the Orthodox point of view, but what I mean to say is that they're not on the same level of insanity. It's more of an administrative dispute than anything else.
