No. Although you are correct in thinking we have a long time becoming a hellish shithole, it dates back to around 1990 or something like that. Before that, it was comfy, and comfy enough that people from all around the globe emigrated to Venezuela, including spanish people, portuguese, americans, italians, french, and many more.
Shit started to hit the fan when Chavez assumed the presidency, but people here are a special kind of stupid and loved that mongoloid, thus, they kept voting for him. With Maduro it is different, no one votes for him, people hate him since 2013 (at this point people did not like Chavez either) and people voted against him, but the elections were rigged, just as they have been now, hence, people just don't even bother with voting anymore.
The good thing is that Chavez and Maduro have done a great job in making Venezuelans hate socialism, or anything red related.
As far as I know, some news started to come out about people eating zoo animals like in 2016 or so. In response to that phenomena, the Zoo of Zulia gave all its animals to a NGO from another country.
