Alternatives To State-run Social Media: >>>/prepare/20 | https:// archive.fo/XA02u
The White House has drafted an executive order for President Donald Trump’s signature that would instruct federal antitrust and law enforcement agencies to open investigations into the business practices of Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Facebook Inc. and other social media companies.
The order is in its preliminary stages and hasn’t yet been run past other government agencies, according to a White House official. Bloomberg News obtained a draft of the order.
The document instructs U.S. antitrust authorities to “thoroughly investigate whether any online platform has acted in violation of the antitrust laws.” It instructs other government agencies to recommend within a month after it’s signed actions that could potentially “protect competition among online platforms and address online platform bias.”
The document doesn’t name any specific companies. If signed, the order would represent a significant escalation of Trump’s antipathy toward Google, Facebook, Twitter and other social media companies, whom he has publicly accused of silencing conservative voices and news sources online.
“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices," Trump said on Twitter in August. “Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen. They are closing down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others.”
Trump also accused Google of rigging search results against him, tweeting: "Google search results for ‘Trump News’ shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake New Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD, Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal," Trump said in his latest claim of bias by the media. 96% of results on “Trump News” are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous."
Trump followed up with: "Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!"

According to Pew Research Center, 72% of Americans, and in particular 85% of Republicans and right-leaning independents think social media companies purposefully censor political viewpoints which run counter to their internal culture.
The belief that technology companies are politically biased and/or engaged in suppression of political speech is especially widespread among Republicans. Fully 85% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think it likely that social media sites intentionally censor political viewpoints, with 54% saying this is very likely. And a majority of Republicans (64%) think major technology companies as a whole support the views of liberals over conservatives. -Pew
This does qualify as Good! news, but I seriously question whether our government will do anything to prevent censorship. I hope it happens and am keeping my fingers crossed, but regardless I'm sticking with the alternatives.

this sounds like a VERY ANTITRUST SITUATION
Blake Mitchell
It won't. But hopefully it breaks up these shit shows and gives us a little breathing room
Agreed. He should have done this awhile ago, but better late than never in this case.
Zachary Hernandez
It should also include MSM; some of the news companies are giant conglomerates. We need more news companies that are not owned by the joooos.
Hunter Price
Very likely? I think it's very likely that we're able to find a media outlet that DOESN'T censor political viewpoints?
Aaron Bailey
Derp. That should read very unlikely

OP is a commie, hurting good capitalist US companies
Evan Roberts
nice commie move, trump. if you don't like google, search yahoo or any one of hundreds of search sites. they are private companies who are free to make whatever algorithm they want in order to increase profits. don't complain if you like using them too. capitalism means you can take your business elsewhere. don't try to "legislate" an even playing field for everyone, so that every website is the same as every other website, commie scum.
Brody Gonzalez
Agreed. I doubt much will come of it but bad news for social cancer is good news for everyone else.
Uh, not, these companies are in bed with governments like China and are engaged in censoring AMERICAN users. Try again.

Why is it still "who have been publicly accused of…" or "allegedly" when they're on dozens of leaks including videos admitting to censoring and modifying results?
Until they are found guilty in a court of law, they are presumed innocent. As such, not using words such as "allegedly" and stating their actions as a matter of absolute fact in the media can invoke a libel suit

The fact that we are having to correct the timeline that we're in such a fashion implies that the timeline was not the best.
They won't directly or intentionally but if social media is forced to breakup into competing companies then it gives us options. And there's always a possibility one of those decedent companies will prioritize making money over pushing agenda.
Ethan Williams
Companies should be FORCED to prioritize making money over pushing agenda. The only way to do so is cutting off their govt subsidizes and denying them "too-bif-to-fail" privileges. And by doing so, we could restore capitalism - the way it was meant to be.

This should have been done for all banks refusing to process payments for gun shops or that do not allow gun shops to have banks accounts with them.

These people are traitors. I hope to God they all hang one day!!!

if you insist on using google to search, then what are you complaining about? but here, I'll make it easier for you. go to google.com and search for "search engine" you're welcome.
Isaac Foster
again, banks are private companies. they can do whatever they feel makes them the most money. stop being such a fucking commie.
Communists support Google. Dragonfly program, look it up.
Thomas Edwards
yes, if what you're trying to limit is HOW they do business that has nothing to do with "anti-trust" laws. Trump saying he doesn't like their algorithms because so many (deserved) critical stories come up about him is just him being a commie crybaby.
Brody Lewis
Google censors conservative news, it has nothing to do with "critical" stories made up by the MSM.
Oliver Thomas
They're working with communists for God's sake…. are we just going to allow Google to destroy America's freedom of speech while working with the Chinese dictatorship?
They're also bailed out by governments, which is very anti-free market. In a free market system the companies and banks that are insolvent simply go bankrupt and alternatives will arise within a few years to slowly take their place. But we don't have a free market system anymore, we have a govt subsidized, controlled and suppressed system.
Aaron Barnes
Trump should cut off Big Tech subsidizes. Its that simple, the bulk of Big Tech industry currently RELIES on government contracts. Pull that rug out from under them and they will be forced to treat their consumers better because they'll start needing consumer support!
If we had a true free market there would be no subsidies or bailouts. Every company would have to compete with one another on an equal playing field, and the consumers would make the decisions who gets the most support.

Google and facebook are both working with the Chinese to limit free speech and access to information? Shouldn't you be slurping on a fat cock?
