Kirill seems very realistic and has a good understanding of politics and cultures. I can't imagine Pope Francis ever speaking this cogently about any topic to be honest. Really sad since he has so much influence over how Catholics think in Western Europe.
Kirill seems very realistic and has a good understanding of politics and cultures...
That really is the key difference that many societies today don't grasp. Different groups of people can live peacefully in the same country and that frequently involves largely sticking with their own kind. Trying to mash everyone together into a homogenous goop just leads to endless strife.
Kirill is not wrong. However, it's not like Francis would advocate for us to surrender our civilization. Infact, what he wrote in this tweet you posted, he's entirely right. No weapons, particularly weapons of war - no fear of fullblown warfare.
Nice tho, both pics you posted are in no way related to each other. And one more thing you undermine by not mentioning: Kirill was depicted in state media. He simply doesn't say unpopular things on state media regarding the state (leader) and its rule. Plus he's local. Yes, there are somewhat 500million Russian orthos and other ethnicities under his patriarchate, but matter of fact is that literally no one outside of Russia (except those who care) will ever get to hear what this man has to say. The Pope, on the contrary, has not only 1.2 billion under his rule and guidance (which is btw 1/7th of the world population), he's also everywhere, because the media is all over him all the time. Every single word uttered by this man will be placed on a fine balance - therefore he has to care what he says. Patriarch Kirill can utter controversial things (not in pic related, however) without getting in trouble, unless it goes against Putin and his rule.
Matter of fact, the Pope is neither liberal nor whatever ideological term people want to ascribe to him. But he's a Christian. A Catholic. The Vicar of Christ. He acts according to Christian faith - not according to the current flavor of political shenanigans. Furthermore you seem to also forget that enough people in the Church have published opinions on how we're handling the refugee crisis (for example Cdl. Sarah, here: lifesitenews.com
So banning weapons will destroy all weapons? Perhaps we should ban criminal activity and that will stop crime. Infantile.
All that will do is let all the criminals have all the weapons. So we should live just like it was under Soviet Russia. Weapons are just a tool, the way in which they're used is completely dependent on the moral character of the wielder.
...
No.
93% of gun crimes are carried out with illegally purchased weapons in the US.
"banning weapons" will do nothing except handicap the passivist countries.
Multiculturalism, in the sense of cultures homogenizing, worked in the U.S. for two hundred years. What changed? Self-awareness of the process.
Melting pots require the newly admitted to be humble and willing to change. Their new host society owes them nothing. They must change enough to impress their hosts, and their first generation must work harder than everyone else to be accepted.
Eventually, a new culture starts immigrating, and the last entrant was accepted as "American" and was allowed to spread it's culture a little, as long as it didn't infringe on core values (why every town has Italian restaurants and why we all celebrate St. Patty's day)
But, at some point, we stopped expecting the humility and hard work of the new invaders. Instead of saying they had to change to fit into the system, some wanted the system to change to fit them- but now it's not a melting pot anymore. It's just a bunch of people who don't get along forced into close quarters with each other. No wonder it's a failure now - but it did work well for 200 years.
Hospitality to the foreigner is not a bad thing; allowing the foreigner to trample all over your culture and beliefs despite not understanding them or putting out any effort- that's full retard.
going from predominately christian white/european "multiculturalism" to actual diverse multiculturalism
More like 150
I thought it was … or was it ~500 million orthos overall ? Anyway, the point is - Patriarch Kirill's words are not globally weighed every single time he'll greet someone.
Francis isn't a political activist, he's a spiritual leader. His statements shouldn't be taken as political or systematic, they're meant to be taken by your hearts. It's a call to EVERY INDIVIDUAL in the world to sheathe their swords and cease violence. The world has become so political that people like you forget what it means and how simple it is to be an individual.
Only a fool would give up his guns so that the ever increasing horde of atheistic leftists can hold even more power over us. When are we going to get a pope with a brain and a pair of balls? A tweet suggesting your flock become defenseless against a horde of wolves that wear their contempt for you and your family and your church on their sleeves is irresponsible.
If that. Orthodox here. Russians are baptized and marked as Orthodox from birth, probably 9/10 of those are atheist or don't think about God one way or another. Some of them go through the motions solely because it's socially expected of them, and in the East social expectations still matter somewhat. But it's not because of real belief in Orthodoxy. The West is much more Christian than the East, to be honest. I moved to the West from the East and this is very noticeable. This is why I find it hilarious when LARPers claim that the West getting culturally destroyed is God's revenge plan against atheists and pagans, while real atheist regions don't deal with any of the West's problems.

Sheathing swords and banning weapons are 2 radically different things. I don't believe anyone on this board would have a problem with sheathing weapons. You cannot be careless with your words, especially someone who is supposed to be a "spiritual leader"
very good word. thanks. super interesting. do you have any more interesting observations or remarks about the russian mentality, when it comes to piety?
i thought it was a stereotype that old people and babushkas are very pious in russia?
Hello my fellow orthodox…we are so fake and everyone else is legit my dudes.
I believe you!
Lol he's a troll
Might be a foolish thing to do, but so do the holy fools.
Well, to spiritually ban something is different from politically banning something.
A house divided against itself cannot stand
Frank the Hippie Pope Bans All Weapons
His Holiness Pariarch Kyrill keeps criticizing aspects of Western civilization as if Russia were doing significantly better, with its rampant problems of alcoholism, abortion, and atheism.
He's half-right though. Middle Eastern and Eastern European Christians tend to be pretty Christian, but Russia isn't much more religious than a country like France. America is hyper-religious in comparison (although it's Evangelicals steering the ship).
According to many Catholics, Kirill's understanding of politics is "caesaro-papism" and thus bad and wrong. But having multiple Popes who advocate more or less for the feel-good neo-liberal moralism of capitalism is not "caesaro-papism."
The damage control mental gymnastics is plainly obvious whenever a Pope does or says something stupid you get a textbook answer of "The Pope's job is not blah blah…he didn't actually say that…it wasn't uttered in this circumstance."
The only defense against the Orthodox intuitive common-sense is "that's caesaro-papism!" sometimes more bluntly put as "muh putin"
After the destruction by marxism it's a miracle the country even exists.
Imagine being a latin kike and trying not to laugh at yourself while saying this absolute garbage.
what is his end goal?
That's because Kirill IS a politician in a koukoulion.
It's no surprise, when he was anointed during the reign of Tsar Vladimir, that he's a mouthpiece of the state.
>"Dude, Medici fugue states don't count"
Francis is also a politician, he hardly believes in Christ. He is just the liberal one.
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has decreed that the death penalty is "inadmissible" under all circumstances and the Catholic Church should campaign to abolish it, a change in church teaching that could influence Catholic politicians and judges in the U.S. and across the globe.
Change Change Change.
Yeah he can do that what he changed is not dogmatic. The Pope is allowed to change it and the laiety are allowed to disagree with it and say I don’t care. I am not even sure why you guys are storming around here as if you got us darn Catholics this time. You look the fools if you even take a second to find out what happened.
