If you have the top 1 floor of a 20 story building fall then your momentum is the force of gravity times the mass of that floor. Every single other floor is at rest and structurally stable, so the first floor must have the kinetic energy to collide with every other floor before it impacts the next floor below it. The momentum of the motionless floors is also conserved which should slow the falling floor down (or expel fragment net upwards to conserve the momentum of the motionless floors). Because each floor is stable except the one that fell each floor the top one hits applies the same force onto the falling mass as is applied onto it. So unless the mass of the top floor is significantly more or the distance between the top and second upmost floor is significant more than the distance between every other floor. Yes the mass increases but the mass is the least at the first impact. Which means each additional collapsed floor will have a greater chance to collapse the next one below it, which means the very first impact of the top floor to the lower one is the least likely and requires the most energy.

The planes didn't even need to be remote-controlled - there could have been a computer on board that automatically took over the plane after it was in the air for some time, then executed the pre-programmed flight pattern into the wtc. Such a system may need a few key instructions when to switch on, but no uninterrupted radio contact. It would then switch off all communication systems and pilot controls in the air and execute it's pre-programmed course into the target.

One of those systems failed, hence why wtc 7 was detonated without any plane hitting the building - it was too dangerous to let the thermite-packed building stand, the explosives could have been found.
