I have a question for you

Should the production and distribution of all pornographic material be made a criminal offence?

Yes, of course.

Porn is sinful, but should everything that is sinful also be illegal?

Not everything, but porn is no minor sin.

Yep. Suppress that for the good of public morals.

Not necessarily, but porn undermines and corrupts the nation. It's the responsibility of the civil authorities to uproot it.

For example, there is no way of making internal sins (e.g. dirty thoughts) illegal. But pornography is not an internal sin and has had a devastating impact on a whole generation of boys and girls. Something should be done against that.

Porn should not be made illegal solely on the basis that it is sinful, but it certainly has cause to be made illegal based on it's detrimental effects to society.

In a perfect world, sure. But you know there is no way to enforce this. Sure, you can cripple the corporations, but the homemade porn would just blossom more than it already is.

Exactly, that's what I wanted to say. I do not believe the mere possession of porn on your PC should be made illegal, although it's sinful.

If you bring down all of the major "tube" websites it would be a huge difference.

There is no way to enforce it in our current weak "democracies". A stronger civil authority could definitely enforce such laws.

The lustful spirit runs deeper than just the mainstream porn. I haven't looked at real porn in years, yet I'm jacking off every night to my female friends on instagram.

We're not trying to outlaw masturbation. Pornography is bad for more reasons than just lust. It's vulgar and corrupts morals and the way genders see each other.

The current issue with Porn is not so much that it exists, but that it is so easily accessible

I'm not sure I have an answer, so I'll just start by sounding out my thoughts.

Prohibition was very successful if you go by alcohol-related deaths during prohibition- the law saved many lives.
Prohibition was unsuccessful if you view only the rise of organized crime, enabled by a product many wanted that could not be legally sold. Still, keep in mind that many more lives were saved (less cirrohisis of liver deaths) than were lost to organized crime, Prohibition, as to saving lives, was a success.

So, banning a thing makes us consume less of it. Yet, banning a thing makes the lesser number of producers more violent, organized and criminal. An example of this is the problem with child porn rings and sex trafficking. Most of us civilized folk are surprised it exists - especially when it's in our backyards. But, when it does exist it is crazy violent and damaging to those involved.

Predictions- if porn was illegal, every porn star would be a doped-up slave. Far fewer people would view porn. There would be a lot less porn made and the little amount of porn made would be expensive…

But wait, porn isn't a consumable product in the way drugs or alcohol is. Porn that has already been made will stay in the market. Also, porn can be produced in the home… if the price of porn rose too much, it would even be made secretly by married couples that were really hard up for cash, so maybe I'm wrong about all porn stars having to be slaved, at a high enough price point, even normal people would risk it…

So, porn won't get -that- expensive, or people will just produce it at home. Under it's current legality, drugs, STDs and slavery still occurs- and it's harder to prosecute under the guise of legality. Further, the same people running the porn industry tend to have ties to organized crime anyway- there's sort of weird connections in the vice industry…

I'm totally uncertain but considering how bad the industry is anyway, and that it would certainly drive down consumption, I'm in favor of it's illegalization unless shown otherwise.

That was a very good insight, thank you.

It used to be illegal, but not anymore. Remaking it illegal would take some serious changes to Congress and an amendment to the Constitution that (a)removes the establishment clause of the First Amendment and (b)makes anything the Christian religion deems sinful as illegal.

Good luck.

I feel like we should stick like something along the lines of the Nordic model for prostitution. Lenience towards the actresses themselves, punishment towards the producers. I'm not entirely sure if punishing consumers is the right way to go.

Should we ban everything that is a sin? All sin has a negative effect on society. Why single out pornography? If we take this “we need a law against that!” approach, you end up with a theocratic state that the population will revolt against in the end.

Check out the English Pilgrim and Puritan colonies in 16 century New England; that fell apart in less than 4 generations. Now look at New England.

no the state which has literally every church’s support shouldnt try to interfere with male authority.

if youre a man, would you let either your wife or daughter participate in pornography? and if you threatened wihdrawal of physical provision, do you think they would participate?

I doubt our civilization has more than 4 generations anyway. I want cyberpunk inquisitors electrocuted the gay out of the sodomites. I want giant screens on every corner blasting fire and brimstone preaching by a square jawed white man in a black uniform 24/7 that's so loud no one can sleep. I want the streets marched by stone faced Judge Dredds with crosses on their helmets terrifying and "oppressing" the populace as they enforce our neo tyrannical biblical law. I want fields of cowering weeping reprobate lamenting they're being denied their perversions by force and no one feels sorry for them. It would be a fashy Christian paradise.

There's a strong secular case to be made that porn is harmful to society. It corrupts relations between men and women; promotes the objectification of women (especially young, vulnerable ones); magnifies and distorts the natural male sex drives of its male viewers, causing a serious psychological over-emphasis on sex and leading to anger/despair when these young men find that the reality of women/sex is so much less satisfying and attainable than porn projects. I think this latter point is especially clear to everyone here, presumably all male and of the age where porn was readily available pretty much the moment puberty kicked in.

the only thing worse than democracy is tyranny. get these retarded ideas out of your head. there's a world of difference between a just king and a tyrant

Without question. They serve absolutely no positive purpose at all.

Yes Pornography is a tool created to make you weak and complacent. Something to control and keep the masses subdued. It should be banned in every form and cease to exist.

just let me have my silly LARP fantasy

Seriously what I'd like to see isn't sin simply made illegal but a civilization that strives so hard for virtue it wants these things to be illegal because they're intolerable. Then laws would come about naturally. We wouldn't even be arguing about this if we were such people and in the majority.

And I don't know where you are but here in the US there's so much corruption our democracy has become a joke. We already have tyranny. It's the same throughout most of the western world right now it seems and it's just getting worse. The chosen system of government isn't the problem, they all work on paper, it's the people who are running it and the populace tolerating it. The world's problems aren't political they're ethical. We need better stronger people.

Alrighty then! Call your Congressman to draft a bill. Be sure to include actual studies on the matter and not your personal opinion. It's important that it not be your opinion because the Supreme Court already set precedent that anti-pornography laws are unConstitutional - which means that the Constitution has to be amended. So get those studies together in a simple to read packet and start working on Congress.

political activism of that kind is pointless. democracy is a corrupt system.

Absolutel, if only because people are so used to seeing extreme sexual acts that normal sex isn't enough anymore for most. Wich in turn leads to people having way too high sexual expectations from their partners, leading only to disappointment.

Yes. It destroys morals of a nation. Think about the lives ruined by porn (actors, consumers) the amount of degeneracy it spreads.
It's our responsibility to protect the youth from this…Of course producers and degenerates will claim "muh freedom".
But if this is your definition of freedom you should know you're part of the problem

It should be put in the EULA and Terms of Service.

That is the very definition of sin. God does not forbid something without good reason.

The trials of those who use porn to escape the responsibility of addressing their repressions, is not different from those who judge or condemn others for the same reasons. Check your eye brother.

Should be 100% banned.

Yes, the world would be made better by it

People are advocating the criminalization of porn studios and websites, not of porn consumers.
