I think it's clear what happened. This is why Benedict resigned. He realized the homosexual mafia had taken control and he had no power to do anything. How Sodano prevented him from learning about the Sipe letter. The de facto governance of the Church has been hijacked. Why indeed. He probably felt boxed in and unable to act for all sorts of reasons we don't know about, but I still don't understand why he couldn't have exercised his authority as the bloody absolute monarch of Catholicism even if that would have meant unimaginable scandal. Maybe he was worried about getting killed.
