Imagine an fps in St. Peter's basilica with destructible environments.
Benedict must respond
I think it's clear what happened. This is why Benedict resigned. He realized the homosexual mafia had taken control and he had no power to do anything. Just read about how McCarrick covered up the fact that Benedict had ordered that Communion not be given to abortion-supporting politicians. How Sodano prevented him from learning about the Sipe letter. The de facto governance of the Church has been hijacked. When Benedict realized he was powerless he felt like he couldn't continue as Pope.
Why couldn't he fire them?
Why indeed. He probably felt boxed in and unable to act for all sorts of reasons we don't know about, but I still don't understand why he couldn't have exercised his authority as the bloody absolute monarch of Catholicism even if that would have meant unimaginable scandal. Maybe he was worried about getting killed.
nah he'd die for the faith. maybe he wanted to avoid scandal?
Because they would become martyrs to their cause and potentially schism away dragging more sheep into hell with them. He needed the laity to know and so it is assumed his resignation was a signal that something was very wrong in Rome.
