The head of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency has said that a proposed Russian mission to the moon will be tasked with verifying that the American moon landings were real.
We have set this objective to fly and verify whether they’ve been there or not,” said Dmitry Rogozin in a video posted Saturday on Twitter.
Rogozin was responding to a question about whether or not NASA actually landed on the moon nearly 50 years ago. He appeared to be joking, as he smirked and shrugged while answering. But conspiracies surrounding NASA’s moon missions are common in Russia.
The Soviet Union abandoned its lunar program in the mid-1970s after four experimental moon rockets exploded.
In 2015, a former spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee called for an investigation into NASA moon landings.
The people that say it's fake wouldn't know which end of a telescope to look into, and too impatient to read the instruction manual.

Damaging the US's image is only a very very minor side goal with this silliness. The real purpose of that was to cover their own asses. Russia's space program is nosediving hard. Has been for a while, but its gotten far worse in the last ~year. At every level of management, someone tries to find a scapegoat for whatever fuckups happen under them. Ordinarily they'd just fire (and likely imprison) whoever reported the incident and blame it all on them, but in this case the leak was discovered on-orbit, and they couldn't find any single person on the ground responsible, so America becomes the default. Truth is, these incidents (the MS-09 leak, the MS-10 explosion, the unacceptable engine materials in the Proton production line a while back, the two Soyuz-Fregat failures last year, the abysmal Proton record, the continuous delays to Nauka, Angara flight 3 beings years behind schedule because nothing the factory shits out can pass quality assurance….) can't be traced to a single person or even a single company, they are the result of a staggering degree of incompetence and corruption permeating every layer of management and every link of the supply chain, all the way from Rogozin down to the raw material mills, combined with a management culture that actively discourages fixing this. Mills mistakenly or not-so-mistakenly supply the wrong materials (aerospace-grade materials are expensive, especially with some of the weird alloys used in ORSC engines that have no other use whatsoever), but it doesn't get caught until deep into production if ever because nobody knows what the correct material is supposed to look like, and if they do, "its not my problem, I shouldn't risk my job by speaking up".
At best you have situations where work is delayed by weeks because a machine shop physically can't cut through what they're given to work with but won't stop trying, at worst you blow up a rocket. Same all the way up the supply chain. And since the space program is largely treated as a jobs program, there are a lot of unnecessary but labor-intensive tasks that are included for political reasons, which not only wastes time and money but drastically increases risk of damaging flight hardware by repeatedly moving parts around, dismantling and reassembling them, having parts of the production process that intentionally damage their equipment (what the fuck?), all for no actual gain, except to manufacture a new part and make more money.
A few years ago a Proton blew up because an angular rate sensor package was installed upside down (hammered in place despite being designed to only fit one way, actually). They jailed some random woman over it, but investigation showed it had been independently removed and reinstalled, sometimes correctly and sometimes not, several times throughout production, but nobody bothered reporting this.
Roscosmos and its suppliers may get their shit together eventually, most likely not. Russia (and Ukraine) has such a proud heritage in spaceflight, but (despite the enormous efforts the US put specifically into strengthening their industry to prevent nuclear proliferation to Iran and NK. Literally all our space policy since 1991) they never really recovered after the USSR fell. They did well commercially for a couple years, coasting by on Soviet era work (Angara is the first new rocket they've developed since the 80s, and its been in development hell for 20 years now with almost nothing to show for it), and then it all fell apart. S7 Space seems to be acquiring a lot of the remaining worthwhile talent from Roscosmos, maybe they'll do something at least

The size of the Van Allen belt is relatively small. When your passing through it at rocket speeds you only get a tiny fraction of the radiation that you get from a medical X-ray going to the moon and back. The big problem would be spending months if not years outside the earths magnetosphere traveling to somewhere like mars. You could end up taking on 10,000 medical X-rays worth of radiation on that journey.
