"Imagine you drive a van for SuperShuttle. You take passengers from their homes and hotels to the airport and back. The shifts are long and the pay isn’t great, but hey, it’s a job.
One day, the company tells you the deal has changed. Your job will stay almost exactly the same: You’ll drive a SuperShuttle van, wear the company uniform, follow its rules, drive how and where it tells you, and get paid an amount that it decides—but you’ll have a little more flexibility in your work hours. Oh, and you’ll have to buy a van. Yes, spend your own hard-earned money (or, more likely, borrow and pay interest) to purchase a blue-and-yellow SuperShuttle van with the company logo on the side. Also, you’ll lose all legal protections.
This is what happened to SuperShuttle drivers in 2005. Why would the company do something so wild as making drivers pay for their own vans? Isn’t that somehow illegal?"
Sadly it is not against the law to take advantage of the mentally retarded in America. And boy, are there a lot of them these days.
Jace Sullivan
It is not. It is, however, tax deductible for the employee who purchased the vehicle. What would be illegal is if the company took ownership of the vans without compensation if the driver quit. The real question is why this sort of thing doesn't prompt immediate large scale walkouts.

I see this and think it's bullshit and anyone signing up is an idiot.

Trump’s Labor Board Gave Its Blessing to One of the Most Deplorable Worker Abuses in the Country
This is what happened to SuperShuttle drivers in 2005.
Your matrix has broke down into rubble. Nobody is buying your illusion anymore. Your circus freak show has failed. Americans see through your scam of deceit. Go back!
Mechanics are often required to supply their own tools. Any chef worth his salt buys his own knives. Most carpenters, plumbers, and other tradesmen have to have not only their own tools but their own vehicle (usually a pickup or a van) that is then used for hauling tools and materials to job sites. Many cab companies either hire cabbies that already own a suitable vehicle, or make them rent/lease one of the company's own.
It's all been that way since forever. Why is it all of a sudden so horrible?
Owen Scott
Trump also shit his pants in kindergarten better impeach
Grayson Perez
Actually in kindergarten Trump was driving a SuperShuttle van, then two years later in 2005 he was reelected as president, where his labor board gave its blessing to one of the most deplorable worker abuses in the country
I almost forgot that you spend 23 hours a day sitting in that stinky, perspiration-stained, sunken in piece of shit computer chair, working your flexor tendons to the carpal bone, playing video games and masturbating to pornography.

And as employees and not owners they have the right to unionize. Independant contractors like carpenters also can unionize. They also can use their tools in other business ventures. This is Trump undermining the drivers rights as employees based on a technicality.
Want to try again?

Because capitalism. If you can make money doing something, you do so!
No, it's not. Because the people doing this aren't actually employees of the company. They are "independent contractors". This means they have ZERO RIGHTS as employees. Most companies are switching to this model of doing business, because it's hilariously profitable.
Same reason about a million federal workers just bent over and took a month-long, unpaid ass-fucking without walking out. Because in America workers have no power and leaving a job makes you basically unhireable for the rest of your life. This is due to the fact that almost everyone is kept constantly on the verge of poverty in wage slavery, so there will ALWAYS be a thousand people who will do your job, tomorrow, for even less pay because otherwise they will be homeless and starving.
Cooper Gomez
Kill yourself, OP, you worthless, retarded bastard.
Because the company is under no legal obligation to recognize the union. A thing only has power if everyone agrees it does. Paper money is objectively worthless, only having value as fiat currency because enough people recognize it as such.
There is nothing stopping any group of people from assembling into anything they want to. They are in fact guaranteed by the constitution to be able to do so. But that group is meaningless unless it has power. Unions have (well, HAD) power because they could cripple entire economic sectors if their demands were not met, as so many workers were part of them. What would happen now if workers formed a union is that the companies would fire all of them, and find enough desperate poor people to fill those positions by this time tomorrow.

Bro the federal government is a jobs program in america.

What dimension are you from?
Jack Wood
Ahhhh, and you can thank 1) globalist outsourcing and 2) cheap foreign open border labor for that!
