management and workers least two other Sonics in the area did the same
They cut workers pay from min wage to $4.00 USD + tips.
According to The Scioto Post, the workers were angry over their pay being cut from Ohio's minimum wage of $8.55/hour to $4.00/hour plus tips.
Many pointed out fast food workers rarely get tipped.
Two other stores in Ohio, one in Lancaster and one in Grove City who are also under the same new ownership, also quit en masse, according to The Scioto Post.
Those stores also hung signs saying "Goodbye" and "Thank you next" on their windows.
If the minimum wage was $8.55 how could they pay them less without being in violation of the law?
Connor Watson
Jobs that allow you to get tips usually are in a gray area, depending on state.
Grayson Bell
I've seen this story posted all over and thought the same thing as well…
In the US—-if your job wants to claim tips as part of your compensation, then if you don't get enough tips to make minimum wage (fed or state, whichever is higher) then the company must pay you the difference anyway.
Of course, that still means they are only going to pay minimum wage so it's still a shit deal.
Nathaniel Bailey
so $4 an hr plus tips into 40 hrs and the employer has to make up the difference. Whats to stop someone from not claiming the tip?

It's legal for restaurants to pay below minimum wage. The reason why is because (for mom & pop establishments mostly) it's a lot harder to turn a profit on food. So the compromise is paying the servers less and relying on the customer to chip in a few bucks for the service. If we forced restaurant owners by law to pay their employees at least minimum wage (and in return, not obligating the customers to tip), realistically you'd be looking at something like $15-$25 for a hamburger and fries (with a glass of water), instead of a reasonable $7-$12. And then, to no one's surprise, the place would go out of business because no one is going to pay such an outrageous amount for what they could get much cheaper at McDonald's and Burger King. Running a restaurant is just not the same as running a GameStop or a 7-Eleven.
I'm not sure how Bar+Grill places like Chili's or Applebee's would be affected (pretty sure they're large enough to pay their servers decently while keeping food prices the same), but forcing all restaurants to pay minimum wage would make it almost impossible to start your own restaurant without huge financial backing. Similar to that "just start your own ISP lmao" argument that was going around during the net neutrality controversy. Having said all that, Sonic is just being jewish here. $4.00/hr is unreasonably fucking low, especially today (10 years ago I started my first job on $5.25 plus tips).
Cooper Gray
Holy fuck, their grammar is an absolute nightmare.
It's not a grey area. You're considered a waiter/waitress, they fall under different minimum wage standards.
As said, they're supposed to pay you the difference if you don't make tips, but you have to actively put in requests in order to get that money which will typically get you fired in short order.
Levi Adams
So the source says the new owners deny changing the wages at all. I think we're gonna want to see some proof from both parties to back up their claims. Surely there is documentation about employee compensation floating around.
so for the cost of half the wages that they saved they gave up an entire day of income and defiantly the second day due to quick hire and training but who would apply and stay at that wage?
There is about to be a cascade failure in food service. the actual workers aren't going to put up with it any more forcing inefficient businesses to close. but as the job pool shrinks so too will the jobs that can give new workers experience and slowly it will die off. it wont be the cost of wages killing the industry and pushing automation it will be the cost of finding and retaining workers. workers are becoming unavailable at any price. dishwashing is about to hit 13 an hour in a state where the min wage is like 7.50. NEETs be advised.

oh yeah 100% there is a major discrepincy between food service and every other industry in pay its an unwritten rule that you don't get overtime
Gavin Cruz
But if tipping is expected, then you're obviously not paying $7-$12 for those hamburger and fries. It doesn't matter if the tip is for "service". If it's in the bill, that's what you paid for eating that food. So it might as well be $15 or whatever instead, and no "tips" expected or required.

Maybe because I live in UK but fast food workers don’t get tips and the idea of a fast food worker getting tips is pretty ridiculous, considering that fast food shouldn’t be an experience akin to a decent place or bar grill. This is pure exploitation to replace the staffs with illegals.

Remember the borders are completely open. They will find new people to work for 4 dollars per hour. It would just have to be people with low living costs like illegals.
I'm using this as a copypasta as of now, it explains what I mean very well:
You don't have to buy meat filled with hormones and toxic preservatives (like sodium nitrites), you CAN get fresh meats but it WILL cost some money. However buying in wholesale from a legit rancher can actually SAVE you money. You need to find a local farmers market nearby (they have these in most towns and cities too)… find someone who sells certified organic, non-GMO, non-preservative laced meat. It costs more, yes. However some of the ranchers will give you a huge discount if you buy the meat in bulk (wholesale). I buy half a cow (one full freezer box worth) once every two years. Costs me $1,000 on average. But it lasts me two years worth of meat, thats a lot of meals for one grand. Plus its high quality meat, no hormones, no GMOs fed to the animals, no toxic preservatives…. none of that. Its worth it! Find a local farmers market and get to talking to some ranchers!
Owen Allen
Average hanging weight of cow is 600 pounds in those conditions archive.fo/12UAf . Half a cow is 300 pounds. 1,000$/300 = 3.33$ a pound. But you are getting half the cow which includes I assume half the choice cuts like the tenderloin which the average per pound cost in stores is 9.00$ a pound archive.fo/pTD2z . Not only do you save money using your method you get higher quality meat which means more calories and more nutrition along with not having the water injection problem applied to the weight calculation, its all pure meat/bone.
The only problem is that not everyone can chalk up 1,000$ up front for meat just to save money over the course of two years + electricity costs to keep it frozen. Solutions to this include splitting the cost between multiple families like three people paying 333.33$ for 100 pounds of meat of varying cuts.
Another alternative is buying and feeding the cow yourself if you have a bunch of grass that needs mowed/eaten. You don't have to mow your lawn but you better have a huge lawn and barbed fencing/rebar re-enforced concrete to keep it in. Average cost of purchasing a calf is 150$ a hundred pounds x 550 LB = 825$ for 550 live pounds archive.fo/9MKw5 which could be much low if you get a cull cow or depending on who you buy from as that is USDA standard shit quality. Depending on breed all you have to do is let it eat grass and if you have winters where the ground is covered in snow you have to purchase hay to feed it, or keep grass clippings from mowing for winter. Don't forget if you go down this path to study the breed's pros and cons along with hay costs for your area if you have winters with much snow. Oh and then there's needing guns incase you get waco'd for not being a kike buisness who has cattle….

I live in a small town but the most they let us raise is chickens in our backyards, no cows unless you live on the outskirts with a lot of anchorage of land. Thats why I take trips to the farmers market and hooked myself a connection to a local rancher who provides the services I need.
The real problem is when SHTF, the meat will spoil if you can't run your freezers. So my solution was to invest in solar panels to run my most basic utilities (fridge and box freezers). Unfortunately you are correct, most people can no longer afford this luxury. So you might want to downsize a bit, buying smaller quantities of meat wholesale (maybe sharing the burden of cost with your neighbors), invest in a solar generator to run your box freezer (which would cost WAY LESS than a full blown solar panel set-up which always comes w/ additional deep-cycle 12V and power inverter costs). You can get a decent solar generator for about $400 to $500 average that will last a long time, and if the grid goes down, big deal, you can run it on that.
The government won't go after small time preppers when SHTF, they'll go after the big ones setting up their own unregulated communities and militias.

What experience? The only way restaurant service as a bottom bitch provides "experience" is if you worked there as a manager for several years, and that "experience" is simply saying "yes, I am loyal to a company and I am able to wrangle the tards around the building." I've got 8 years of "work experience" under my belt between retail and manufacturing, and it means jack shit when I'm looking for a trades job because they don't care that you're capable of putting in an honest day's work, only if you worked in THAT SPECIFIC FIELD for X number of years. Fast food jobs are a joke and should have been replaced by machines decades ago, and only persist because the boomers needed somewhere to send their grand children to keep them from starting an armed revolt over the way they're treated throughout the industry.
I had a buddy who worked for some Spic fast food joint. They made him come in early and close shop late for like three days in a row and tried to write him up the next week because he went into overtime. Food service is a joke where any amount of competency or drive to work gets you fired.

I've always heard that they will pay you, when you do this. But then they just cut your hours until you end up quitting. Because these kinds of employees are extremely easy to replace.

Holy shit, or you could just eat beans for next to free instead

My money's on automation, they're trying to get the employees to quit so they can say, see goyim, we tried to keep our workers but they wouldn't work for $4/h, and my burger assembler robot pays for itself in a week, how am I supposed to turn pure profit like this?
Juan Mitchell
That actually makes a lot of sense. In my country, we have fast food workers demanding to be paid £10 per hour and I’m convinced that will be the death knell for the fast food worker and the integration of the automation station.
Leo Davis
you guys are so full of shit. you put no responsibility on the owners. How hard would it be for ice to look at every restaurant that pays reduced wage. easy as fuck. and if they hire illegalls..why not punish the owners? throw them in jail.
Justin King
What happens to the restaurants and places of business after the owners are arrested and jailed? They disappear, along with the jobs and economy that was generated and certain groups in local government will not do a single thing to combat it because they will miss out on the taxes those businesses generate, from construction companies to fast food places like Sonic. They’ve undercut local businesses so much; they’ll allow unscrupulous businessmen to do whatever the fuck they want and nobody will do shit about it.

Good. All of these chain restaurants need to die. Doesnt matter if its low or high. Burn em all out, let new companies form and hopefully we can get a few that are worth a shit. The only one that I have seen that is worth a shit as far as management is taco villa. Every other place is complete trash.

SONIC food is really really bad. Its pretty expensive for what it is, the burgers are served lukewarm, the ice cream is just that cheap ass ice milk that comes from a carton and is dumped into a chiller. The onion rings are soggy and made from minced, not whole onions. Uncaring teens who don't wash your hands make your food. That alone should scare you.
