Traditional Latin Mass

Is it true what some say? is the TLM more popular among youth than among older generations? Is it growing while Novus Ordo is falling in popularity? if so, is there statistical proof to show this? I REALLY want to know And I want to show to my mom that the church will improve

bump : )

Don't have hard proofs, but it's a trend that I was talking about with my parish Father: the most fervent Catholics right now are the young converts, many of whom were not baptised Catholic as kids and had lukewarm experiences until coming into the Church.

Does that mean that more young people are leaning towards the traditional Latin mass? It's a possibility; I go to a NO parish and a TLM parish depending on my work schedule, and both of them have a healthy mix of young and old.

thats good : )

I know you have Asperger's because you mentioned it earlier. But please! Please stop ending every or every second post with a smiley face or emoticon. It makes you look mentally unstable, like a child, or like a troll. Or worse, a middle-aged mother with no hobbies!

I add it to show what I mean by a post. I find a lot communication problems I've had online was because no one knew if I was being serious or joking, which has lead to a lot of arguments on stuff both parties ACTUALLY agree on

I don't know particularly about the TLM, since afaik there is one and only one parish that offers it in my city (and it's quite a large city). However, I agree with thay the religious youth seems to be more fervent than the older folk. Perhaps it's because when the boomers (and GenX, to a lesser extent) were children, religion was the norm. As they grew up with the Church, lots of them treat it like a feel-good social club and don't actually care for its teachings. Nowadays, irreligion is the norm, so younger Church-going people are either converts (which have absolutely no reason to treat the Church as a club) or received a solid foundation from their parents.

its simply to show what My comment means before I post. i find it really helps with preventing misunderstanding

Because the Boomer religion of liturgical Protestantism and innovation is on its last legs. That means more reverent Novus Ordo Masses, and more instances of the TLM.

good!

Just an FYI, that's an edit of a picture about a guy who claimed to have cut a Bible in half. Not sure how you're comfortable having that on your hard drive.

I've been diagnosed with Asp. when I was fifteen by a doctor. Life as you get older is about learning to deal with it. Putting emoticons at the end of your sentences makes you look like a robot and many people will avoid you for it. I understand the fear of being misunderstood. Accept it. It's human. People will get you wrong. It is part of human communication - embrace it.

okay

i was Diagnosed with Asperger's at 15-18? its been a trip dealing with it. I pray to saint thorlak for guidance when I'm overwhelmed, etc. Yesterday I had for the 1st time Irish whiskey (50 mil) it was some potent stuff. shortly after drinking I felt VERY close to throwing up( i was in my dads car at the time) and was panicking. I prayed to St thorlak to help me and he made it all better. He really is a helpful dude

is it wrong to pray like this. i try to avoid social awkwardness at best and try to be on my best behavior. I also do emoticons because some people are not… the brightest when i talk to them

I don't really post pictures. I DO like going on /gif/ on cuckchan and creating Christian threads It serves a few purposes
1) helps people consider becoming Christian who are lost
2) struggling Christians can find faith by being reminded of who they represent
3) Troll the Unforgiving (sadly) fedoras who keep others supplied with poison( eg porn) as well as consume

I'm going to my first Latin Mass (1961 Missal) this Saturday.
I'm not a Catholic but I keep crying whenever I read/hear about good Catholic priest stories for some reason. Literally, even choke up after watching a Catholic kids video. I keep thinking about being a priest. I feel like am called to something.

I am a 24-year-old kissless virgin. I think I was made for a celibate life.

I have been to a normal Novus Ordo mass; I just sat and the back and prayed/watched. I prayed to feel some sign or something, that this was the true form of Christianity? I have been to a Russian Orthodox service in Church Slavonic; it was beautiful and this guy was very patient with my protestant style questions. However, I didn't understand anything and my legs cramped like crazy from standing.

I want to see what a Latin Mass is like. Is the 1961 missal OK?

Doh! I meant to say Sunday.

It's wrong to do such things to the Scriptures, but we don't have a Quran either. It's funny to retcon atheist cringe. Besides, it probably was a prot Bible anyways.

That's fine. Will it be a sung Mass? Low Mass (while still interesting and beautiful) is completely overshadowed by the High Mass.

It's a low mass. They do a Latin low mass every first Sunday of the month at the Cathedral in my city.

My first time ever going to the TLM was at a Low Mass and I was very confused because I decided to just go for it without doing much research ahead of time, and it wasn't like all the videos/pictures online I had seen of the High Mass with the insense and Gregorian chant and beautiful high altar (our Latin Mass parish is very small and operates in the chapel of another church, so our altar is just a regular folding table.) I wasn't overwhelmed with spiritual consolations at first sight but decided to keep going anyway and I do love it now, especially after experiencing the High Mass and Sung Mass, but if Low Mass is your first introduction to the TLM it may take a while to get used to it.

SERIOUS QUESTION: If TLM Is outlawed what do we do? I'd feel rage. Would I be wrong in feeling so?

It's best not to think about these things until they happen.
Anyway, TLM, while not outlawed, was basically disappeared for many decades because it could only be celebrated with special dispensation from the bishop. Even now, TLM is not taught in the seminary which means it requires effort on your own time to learn. The hope was that those who could still celebrate TLM would eventually die so it can all be NO.
Sarcastic but truthful answer: a good Catholic would obey authority. Some important saint, I forgot which one, said you should obey the pope even if he were the Antichrist.
If you want to be a bad (in italics) Catholic, look into the SSPX which would stand to become a powerful movement were such a thing to truly happen.

That is the most blasphemous thing I've ever heard. No saint should have the authority to contradict scripture like that.

Well, I agree with you - and St. Augustine, on the other hand, said we are to boldly resist authority if it is false and in error.
Still, there can be no doubt that obedience is also a virtue in itself.

thanks need to process it

wat?

me to the tee. and say what you want about him, but Abp. Lefebvre saved my soul from hell (per Dominvm nostrvm Iesvm Christvm).

Even Sedes like him. How many can actually say that?

No, anything 1960 and later is heresy. The Novus Ordo style liturgical reforms actually started with the Latin Mass in 1960 (when they, for example, abolished a ton of ancient and universal feasts like St. Peter’s Chains because modernists were against relics) and anyone who uses a 1961 or 1962 missal is using a scarred and deformed version of the mass.
