this idea of mine has been floating around for a while, I have doubts on how well this will be received but I'll be glad if you guys like it. . Premise LibbieOS, AKA "Libbie - The Free Virtual Assistant", is a linux distro designed to work as a free alternative to Siri/Cortana/Alexa. No need to worry about government snoops or corporate stooges watching you at every turn, Libbie does what you ask of her and doesn't need to hide anything from you!
Purpose The purpose of this distro is to provide a small operating system for embedded devices to function as a free replacement to Alexa. LibbieOS has a series of scripts that can be inputted through voice commands or text terminals to do various functions for whatever you want.
LibbieOS is based on Gentoo Linux, and can be tailored for your needs the way you want it to be.
Example Commands Libbie run play_music volume get_the_weather search "" remind_me_about set_alarm_for read_mail help turn_off_microphone

Libbs would actually be a decent design for a net navi.
Something tells me AI-Libbie would just end up being a replacement for human interaction rather than actually being used for her intended purpose, given the general attitudes about virtual assistants by posters here. The goat girl envy could be good motivation though.
It's a shame that they went from GPLv3 to Apache 2 but at least it's still free.
The only way I can see Libbie being used properly in this project is similar to how Siri is depicted, as an abstract audio visualization add on that combines basic 3d character animation. It's a simple enough UI project and could help with the terrible branding they currently have.
When looking at virtual assistants it's Apple that nails it visual design wise keeping it functional and simple while both Google and Amazon have generic shitty flat logos focusing on a physical product with RGB ligthing on it.
I couldn't find a good screenshot of Siri being used so went with the icon but it's a neat visualization for microphone and speaker audio to let you know it's working.
The name Siri itself comes from the pilot episode of the Logan's Run television series. A malfunctioning android servant that kills with kindness, the HAL 9000 similarity in the icon is probably deliberate.
Sadly there are only very few transmissible cancers, and none of them occur in humans.

actually fuck alexa you get sbc's to talk to eachother in some system over wifi just make the devices and sell those too. there's only a couple people actually care about, outlets and light switches. then make the central unit and then web / mobile front-ends to talk to the central unit.
surprised this doesn't exist yet. maybe amazon patented the entire idea of home assistants and if you make anything similar your going to be shutdown by the jew.

What's wrong with entering terminal commands with voice with text-to-speech output? I'm sure that already exists for blind Linux users. Add a markov bot that tries to interpret vague commands with context and responds with some personality.
