You do realize GDDR5 is just a variant of DDR3 right? Sony put marketing spin on the whole thing to make it seem like a bigger deal than it is. The Playstation 4 is using AMDs unified memory model. There are plenty of AMD laptops capable of 8GBs of RAM.
The PS4 basically has 8GBs of RAM. But most of it is set aside for graphics. While 256MBs of it is allocated to the OS itself
