My 16yo 4:3 monitor is finally dying

;__;
I love it.
it just got a smattering of dead pixels and its growing.

Can I buy a 4:3 somewhere else? or a 5:4? I fucking hate widescreen displays and can't shell out $1000+ for a screen.

How do I save it, if possible??? Running at 1024x768 75fps.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend
The end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes again

Can you picture what will be?
So limitless and free
Desperately in need
Of some stranger's hand
In a desperate land

Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's Highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake, he's long, seven miles
Ride the snake
He's old and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here and we'll do the rest
The blue bus is calling us
The blue bus is calling us
Driver, where you taking us?

The killer awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
"Father?" "Yes, son?" "I want to kill you"
"Mother? I want to..."

Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Of the blue bus, on the blue bus, on the blue bus
Come on yeah
Fuck, fuck
Fuck fuck, fuck, fuck
Come on baby, fuck me baby yeah
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
Come on baby, fuck me baby
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
Come on
Fuck fuck
Alright
Fuck fuck
Kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end of your 16yo 4:3 monitor

Wait for MicroLED.

We literally have an entire general devoted to this.

lol what does it have, a 30ms pixel response time? 60ms latency?
calculator screens have costed hundreds of dollars for the past 10 years. only recently they started making "high end" gaymer models for >$500

kys
cnet.com/products/benq-fp537s-lcd-monitor-15-series/specs/

I can see you use the benq brand monitors, I recommend this one, give it a try even if you don’t think you’ll like it you will. I went through the exact same thing recently.

"no"

16:10 = 1.6
3:2 = 1.5
5:4 = 1.25
But
4:3 = 1.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
Stupid aspect ratio mate.
Get a 5:4 if you wanna be a prick about muh “widescreen” 4:3 is a shitty meme that is wider and crappier than 5:4
(Full disclosure: I sell 5:4 monitors)

That's not an argument.

try a 1:1

Attached: 132C123F-D454-4E32-B44D-59CB0F6715EC.jpeg (672x392, 52.04K)

Also not an argument, also who said I was arguing? If you prefer 4:3 then whatever but you look like a dipshit posting yet another monitor thread on tech and not preemptively expecting people to tell you to give something different a try

how fucking stupid are you?
i hope you go bankrupt you fag

Once you get over your shit taste, maybe go vertical 16:9 or whatever.

4x3 nixie tube display?

Have a great weekend :) I hope you make tons of money and never have any financial problems.

I hope you die in a fire

what is the name of this disorder again?

I hope you have a happy life filled with joy and fun and the anger management classes sit in your past having effectively changed you for the better :)

i hope you get tortured to death by mexican gangs who flail your dick one mm at a time and make you eat your own body for sustenance until one day you die from an infection

I hope you receive helpful medical attention from trained professionals who are able to help you overcome your anger in life and improve for the better :) hopefully they will help you overcome your attachments to ephemeral objects so that you can move on from the loss of your beloved monitor and the frustration and grief it has caused for you.

I'm in the same boat. I don't know what I'm going to replace this with when it finally dies some day. Everything is some widescreen piece of shit now.

fuck

(checked)
looks comfy, would go nicely with my new ikea desk

whadduyamean? that page has almost 0 useful information and doesn't even claim a response time

notice how calculators with LCD screens slowly transition between showing different text and look shitty when you change viewing angle? an LCD monitor is just a bunch of calculator screens taped together. they're still slow as fuck and not even good for displaying animations in the first place because it fucks eyes' perception of animation by displaying an entire image for 16ms before showing a new one

good thing it only has a finite number of 3's :^)

Don't know if you can save it but you can always buy a used one at a pawn shop or thrift store for cheap.

I actually have to agree, I only recommended benq because OP
I prefer HP out of reliability I’ve had with them in the past.

Buy a used one or the one Dell made for 200 $ I think

Why so low-res? I'm using pic related, 17" at 1280x1024. Look for a CRT, those things are dirt cheap now.

Attached: LG Flatron.jpg (400x419, 29.29K)

no don't make this a thing

Had this series model, 100hz refresh rate was wonderful.

4:3 desktop monitors are still widely available.

Where do you find these cheap crts? I've been on ebay looking and everyone of them is 100+ easy where. Is there some secret pizza party mason club you're in where I can find these things?

Find a recycling center and go nuts. I have to step over mountains of the damn things to get to anything else, and any place will sell them for dirt cheap, if they charge anything.
If there isn't one close by, try yard sales or flea markets. It won't be as cheap, but it'll still be cheap, and with summer on its way you'll see more and more people trying to get rid of their shit.
Plus once you find these places, then there's bound to be some more cool shit just waiting to be found. I've spent pennies on the dollar for things that are being sold for hundreds on online retailers.

I feel your pain, but good 4:3 displays are not hard to find if you know what you're looking for.
Learn how to visually identify the models you want and keep an eye out for people your local gumtree/craigslist equivilent. I got 2 HP LP2065s for $10 each from a bloke who showed me his garden while explaining that he used to dabble in graphic design before retiring and that's why he had these high-end monitors.
The CCFLs are technically rated for 50k hours, and while I doubt most'll last that long, supplies shouldn't be running out just yet.
If it absolutely must be new, Eizo do make 4:3 LED displays, but they're expensive for what you're getting.

motion blur has not been a problem for desktop LCDs since the early 2000s when working with text. I don't notice it at all on IPS monitors from 2006. That said, it's still around for laptop screens since no one seems to give a fuck beyond the specs they can put on paper. My mother recently bought an MS surface laptop, and while the resolution is great, any contrasting elements leave visual streaks when dragged accross the screen. It's seriously one of the worst LCDs I've seen since the very early days.

If you're watching movies, or playing games, yes, CRT or plasma is the only way to go.

Attached: IMG_20180421_012710.jpg (3264x2448, 1.48M)

are you blind? before i knew it was caused by motion blur, i actually couldn't tell whether the problem is caused by LCD or graphics or my perception. but it's there and it's obvious. even reading text in the terminal moving up the screen is hard. also IPS from 2006 have especially bad motion blur lol

Absolutely plebian.

you cant just peel those off. you need something that can remove the glue and white paper that will be left from the sticker. its much easier to just leave them there.

isopropyl alcohol worked perfectly for me. maybe thinkpad surfaces are different though

Just buy Ultrawide. It's basically two 4:3 monitors stuck together.
I switched from dual 1600x1200 monitors to a curved 3440x1440 monitor and I couldn't be happier.

Where to find a 16:10 monitor made in the past 3 years anons.
I really like 16:10 but my monitor is in really bad shape now.
Why people prefer 16:9 to 16:10?

brand new you can get a screen for 100-200 and will be of similar quality of your 4:3. Go to a thriftstore and find a good 1600x1200 monitor, only buy samsung or sony. Buy a crt if you have the space.

i peeled them off then used cooking oil and an old rag to get the glue off.

Go to whatever price comparison site you use and filter on 16:10
should get a few hundreds

Poster below this line

No they're not I used it on my x200. It's fine.

wd40 will eat the glue
peel a edge, spray, wait ,peel some more, spray

A lot of it is up to your your personal perception and use case. 90% of my computer use is with static and images from within Emacs and I don't have any issues with blur on old monitors unless they truly can't update as quickly as I type. That has not been an issue for 15 years.

Unless we're talking CRTs - which thrift stores are unlikely to carry - you'll be hard pressed to find good Samsung or Sony 4:3 monitors.
Dell and HP had the lion's share of business contracts and businesses are far more likely to fit out their offices with expensive monitors than home consumers are.
The Dell U2007 and HP LP2065 are the last generation of easily available UXGA IPS LCDs, but unfortunately both suffer from a panel lottery, so you have to be careful.

that is correct. of course not if you're panning high detailed images (like satellie photos), then it's physically impossible to see many details until you pause for a second, which is highly inefficient

There is plenty of screens in 5:4

Dell makes the best 16:10 monitors
I just bought 2 new ones, and they're my favorite non CRT monitors

I really wish there were higher resolution 5:4 monitors, 1600x1200 is much nicer than 1280x1024.

Anyway, I don't think it's quite as nice as 4:3, 5:4 works less well in portrait and it's actually a worse fit for regular vision.

Attached: eyesight-aspect-ratio.png (1116x734, 190.18K)

If you really want your screen to be as square as possible, get that 1:1 Eizo monitor.

CRTs have very high resolution.

Thinkvision IBM/Lenovo
got mine for around $35 iirc

OP here, I think I found a good monitor.
What do you think?
pic unrelated.

...

Literally every other aspect ratio is a meme.

Good job pointing to the 2 worst monitor manufacturers of today.

Makes sense if you're a cyclops and if human sight was anywhere near as tall as it is wide.

Actually, there should be a law that stipulated allowed aspect ratios, sizes and resolution/refresh rate multiples for all screens with static pixel grids, and the law should also touch any form of video and the display output of operating systems and programs.

Attached: the prophet has spoken.webm (640x360, 8.45M)

I'm pretty sure _widescreen_ is a meme. What benefit does it offer over 4:3 or 5:4? Does it look cool like the movie theater screen? Also the calculator screen industry went to shit just after a few widescreens came out. Now every screen has to have an OS and take 10 seconds to boot / change video mode. Menus take 3 seconds to display after pressing the menu button. The screen takes 1 second to react to a button press (e.g. arrow button).

nice statism faggot

checked.
nice find plus it's IPS so there's no more need to calibrate. if that's matte display then that's another plus though you could get a 1920 x 1200 for the same price with older thinkvision.

watch out for this thing though.
www.google.com/patents/US6506148
If you find US6506148 on the sticker or have cracked open that buddy and saw a US6506148 code then you're gonna get your mind controlled and be forced to masturbate (watch BPS episode 12)
new monitors especially gaming monitors mind control gamers to play and impulsively spend more on dlc/skins, microtransactions and p2w games while other kinds of monitors trigger parts of your brain to fap furiously to normalfag porn. If you slightly believe in what I am saying, try to get the business line of those monitors not some gaymer or generic kind.

WUXGA is not a meme.

t. has dual 1080p screens upstairs, downstairs WUXGA and I really prefer the latter

the fuck you talking bout son
i new integrals was the devil
my LCD is from ~2012, am i safe?

but you could prefer cock for all I can tell. the fact that you use words like WUXGA or WHUXGA indicate so. but i agree, 16:10 is probably better than 16:9. i can't even remember if I had 16:10 at some point. that market came and went so fast that you'd have to explicitly look for it or be a gaymer fag who buys a new monitor every year

Yes?
Since the botnet fully reached its total maximum around 2013 though the EMF brain patent were here 17 years ago.

Like I said, you could crack it open (not adviced for ccfl due to mercury vapor) or look for the paper online and see which patent numbers were used on the product even lookup what those patents are about
That's why I recommend the business line.

Ever wonder why baby boomers made so many babies? For capitalism? Consumerism (commercials)? Yes, the patents at work! Luckily the infected consumer CRT TVs are now phased out though there are still LCD monitors and smart TVs now which still use the same technologies - just look for the patent numbers.

IPS whitepoints are usually a bit yellowish but are easier to color calibrate than my 14yo sunlight exposed monitor

Widescreen is forced marketing meme.
They want wider horizontals not verticals that is due to the fact they can't achieve excellent top/bottom viewing angles with a horizontal RGB pixel like on the old TFT screens plus those are expensive so they had to (((maximize))) the profit

So it only gets wider and right now is around 21:9
though the IPS should already fix this vertical RGB viewing angle problem, it seems that the "lets make screens wider" meme right now is just a vestigial.

Attached: duel-monitors-640x364.jpg (640x364, 36.91K)

Da fuq?

Okay that made me chuckle.

Speaking of 16:10

Fuck this world, I want a 1920x1200 laptop with decent specs!

Why the need for a powerful laptop when you can ssh to your desktop?

Macbooks have always been 8:5.

There are also a few laptops coming out with 3:2 panels, which are slightly taller. (1.5:1 vs 1.6:1).

Why the need for a powerful laptop when you can javascript to our cloud?

Well, that's the reason why laptop needs to be powerful :^3
