Adblockers

WHEN WILL THEY LEARN??

Let's have a thread to talk about how to purge this horrid cancer from the web.

I block ads using my router/unbound; you can also use uMatrix to dynamically block anything. I don't see the point of an adblocker when these two methods work better. In any case, you'd need to de-commercialize the web if you want ads gone; which is currently impossible.

Is there no alternatives to the type of shit they run? You see so called "professional" websites plastered with the same borderline pornography clickbait ads as fucking pornhub.
I also find the We see you're using an adblocker and have disabled certain features of the site message pretty ironic considering that the popups and redirects made the website unusable in the first place.
That router blocking shit is cool too. I always learn something when I post here since I'm a nigger when it comes to tech.

Do you really want a web with no ads?
That means no Google, no Youtube, no free porn sites, no Facebook.
Basically you would kill sites that make up 99% of web traffic and turn the web into what it was in 93.
Nobody wants that.

Is this persiflage...? Most of the people here wouldn't mind the web being more like gopher.

Yes, that is truly pathetic on their part. But, I generally know to avoid those sites -- if they serve ads like that, they're not worth your time. (Also, some people here don't use sites that require Javascript.)
This is silly too. Most of the time they serve this "message" using Javascript; you can filter it with uMatrix.
A simpler way is to use a hosts file (this doesn't work with every website, mind you). Here's someone that maintains a hosts file:
github.com/StevenBlack/hosts

Just about everyone on Zig Forums wants that. It just means normalfags who stick to the internet must use things like peertube/bitchute, IPFS, GNUsocial, and tox rather then centralized bullshit like everything you listed. Let it all burn.

This. As long as encyclopedia and information services stay online through public and private academic institutions which they always have I probably wouldn't miss most of the web. Imageboards would just jump back to IRC. Online shopping would stay afloat due to them moving actual product for revenue. I could see Youtube surviving as an application considering its already very usable on smartTVs and streamboxes. Porn is a blight upon our collective psyche. Facebook's only use is as an extremely bloated virtual rolodex for which there are better alternatives already existing that don't depend on the web 2.0 model.

Bro thanks.

A element blocker like uBlock Origin is still useful though. For example some sites have annoying modals or banners, and you can just remove them with an element blocker.

IRC doesn't have images. You would kill memes. It also doesn't have a thread model and so much else.
It doesn't require that much web 2.0 tech though so community versions probably survive, maybe even as standalone applications if people want the fancy pop-up stuff.

You're saying all this as if people never hosted their small forums on their personal servers for free.

What are hyperlinks

Good.

no ads = communism
communism = free software

I wasn't really talking about he no adds part, but more the web in 93 part. Pretty much all image boards make use of JS and CSS and other web 2.0 crap.

github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
At least the guy gives us a choice.

tired of this argument

You don't need javascript to use centralized imageboards like 8ch. You do need CSS though or it looks like shit. There's always zeronet for p2p meme sharing in a imageboard like fashion.

I'd ok with this. And actully I used to get tons of free porn from usenet in the mid 90's, even when all I had was a plain dialup shell account (so no web browsing except via Lynx). And since the ISP's news server was only a couple hops away at most, there wasn't any packet loss (provided your phone connection was good).

The web was great before advertising. I absolutely want to go back.

I want that. In the early days, pretty only smart people who had actual things to say had web sites. Scientists. Engineers. Doctors. Businessmen had no reason to be on it. They could barely operate computers by themselves.

So what if fagbook dies? Nobody gives a shit, it's useless. What good is it if all it does is connect you to your normie dumbass "friends" you already put up with IRL? Can you imagine how glorious a return to the early internet would be? A return to an expert's internet? Where you can actually learn new things just by talking to people?

People killed the internet. All these people. Fucking morons who don't deserve all the power the internet affords. All they did was attract the businessmen and their scummy businessman ways that corrupt everything. People used to make websites and pay for them out of pocket because they just wanted to get their ideas out there. Now it has to be "monetized" otherwise it won't hhappen at all? Whatever happened to intrinsic motivation?

Too many people. You can't just pay out of pocket for this kind of crap anymore. Get even the slightest bit popular and suddenly you're paying $10,000 a month for bandwidth.

Not if you have a decent website and aren't sending 5mb worth of javashit down the pipe every time someone requests a webpage.
Who needs them. Fuck normalfags, fuck google, fuck facebook, fuck web design past 1995

Yes.
And that's bad ? I'll be happy when these disappears. Also porn sharing will always exist.
Best times.
Almost all people on Zig Forums want this cancer who generates botnet after botnet removed.

THIS

ITT: The web becomes more accessible and LARPers get upset that they don't have an in-group that generates quality intellectual content.

What we need is a search engine that will still index these pages and not throw a tantrum because your site doesn't give a rats ass about Mobile shit. Neocities is also a great step at getting the old web back. Tons of shit on there, but there's some real good gems. We need to put an emphasis back on content we care about and not just flashy fucking bullshit, and fullscreen ads with dipshits drinking coffee in the background.

Our internet is much better than it was +20 years ago. We'll get by on torrenting our porn.

Businessman pays Websiteman to put ads for the toast he is selling; Websiteman use this money to do website things. To cover the cost of paying Websiteman, Businessman has to make toast more expensive. Normalman sees ad and buys expensive toast, paying both Businessman and Websiteman. So Normalman ends up paying anyway; internet is not free.
If Normalman pay website directly then Websiteman not need ads. Then Businessman not need to make toast expensive to pay ad so toast becomes cheaper! unless Businessman is asshole then he just gets more money himself.
Some people may say they never buy toast from website but that just means someone else is being cheated into paying for you when he buys his toast; better to be honest and ask him to pay for you.

As long as hentai stays, I'm down with this.

The first web browser came with a WYSIWYG editor. So every normal non-technical person cold make up a static page and then host it ether at home, ISP servers or on geocities, yes there were even teenage girls on the internets back then. What corporations took from people is the way to express creativity and communicate in their own unique ways, they took people's freedom. First came web forums, as a web alternative to BBS, over-engineered piles of perl and php code, then "social networks" merged upon them, then came blogs like livejournal and blogger, web 2.0 seized the control from people's hands, then myspace that still allowed certain degree of creativity on personal profile pages, then facebook and social media websites alike.

Today it led to such a fucking pile of javascript mess and useless data traffic, that most people on the planet who access Internet over pocket 5-inch terminals by the way, so-called "smart"phones, over literal dial-up speeds and three-digit latencies, have the only left refuge in form of messaging apps where they communicate, read their news, download porn, get doctor's appointments, order pizza, a straight fall back to AOL and CompuServe types of walled garden service. All because modern web even when "mobile-optimized" is so messy and unintuitive to use, takes up too much traffic and consumes too much computing resources to render on battery-operated device.

And yet still web barely does it's intended purpose, what Doug Engelbart and Vannevar Bush wished it to be, Ted Nelson is seen as a old boomer freak somewhere near Terry Davis. The web came to be as glorified malware distribution network owned by 7 corporations instead of being an interplanetary knowledge base owned by people for the people.

The big flaw in this is that Normalman will never know that Websiteman even exists.

Websiteman should get a job or make some friends. That's how we paid for our servers before noseman stuck his schnoz into our little world and ruined everything for everybody.

Facebook is pure fucking cancer but it's not used just to stay in contact with people locally. It's also used to set up community events and larger community shit. It's cancer and needs replacing but don't sell it short and then offer up a mini version of what makes it useful like it's an alternative.

but not everyone's a loser like you user

I wish.

Not seeing the problem here.

Sign me the fuck up.

They're wondering the same thing, about people who block ads.

>github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
It seems like a pain in the ass to have to su every single time you want to unfuck a site when you can just make a site an exemption in ublock origin. Is there a simpler way to implement this hosts file?

If your web browser can display non-image ads, you only brought it upon yourself.
You made the bed now lay in it

sounds perfect to me

Attached: want.png (379x379, 2.23K)

the web is and always was cancer. i don't even use adblock and it makes no difference since I have JS off. having JS on would be equally as cancer as whatever ads you're seeing with JS or like they were when flash was alive

This gives me an interesting idea. What if we somehow accelerate this process. I don't know how but it would make for a much better internet. Less normalfags ruining our fun.

My browser now displays text-only ads, because every second webmag article has to be a "sponsored material".

Let modern "memes" die. Cancerous non-joke "postironic" meta-humor that are considered "fun" just because it was decided arbitrarily by some cabal of retards. Bring back the "in-jokes" that "memes" used to be, the "you had to be there"/"remember that thread?" factor. /fucko/ threads, for example, are better at being memes than shitty image macros shared among retards that are passed just because they "are memes" and that's it. Recurrent photos shared in an imageboard are acceptable just because they are recurrent, not necesarily "memes for the sake of being defined as memes", and in the end serve the same "ingroup" mechanic that /fucko/ threads do, for example.
So yeah, IDGAF about memes dying.

Nice way of ensuring replies; it's obvious from the place this is that everyone would answer "fuck yes, I do".

I usually browse with light umatrix rules (no XHR, no frames, no cookies for first-party and no nothing but CSS and images for others) and noscript deactivated. If a site bothers me I go full shoah and turn on noscript, block scripts, etc. It usually works. Otherwise, just F12 and kill the overlays, enable scrolling, etc.
A way of purging I suppose is sending them angry letters/emails. Maybe pipebombs, but the legality of such act would be questionable, depending on where you live.

you see, with internet you have a possibility that might not have striken you yet.
Just like thematic pubs where you go and get exactly the type of thing you are looking for, internet can provide similar environment.

If you are pissed about ads, just use an blocker and do not visit sites that will block your blocker (what cuck point have we achived, america).

Filter your own habits...

make a group called "hosts" and put yourself in it, then chown root:hosts /etc/hosts; chmod 0664 /etc/hosts and you're done (no need to use su/sudo anymore)

Using a host file for blocking sites is the wrong way to do it. The hosts file in that repository will leave you open to a DNS rebinding like attack. It's much better to have something like unbound for your dns resolver and have it pretend like those domains do not even exist.

Doesn't the hosts file override all external resolvers?

The problem is that it will resolve the bad address to 0.0.0.0 (on Linux this means it will try to connect to your machine). The correct way just makes it not resolve at all like the domain doesn't even exist.

I agree; here's a script:
(curl --silent raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/alternates/fakenews-gambling-porn-social/hosts | grep '^0\.0\.0\.0' | sort) | awk '{print "local-zone: \""$2"\" refuse"}' > hosts
Make sure to specify in your unbound.conf that you want to include this file.

Only if you tell it to use /etc/hosts by priority, like here:
tmp> cat /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 127.0.0.1lookup file bind
The hosts file blocking method works, but you have to list every single hostname you want block (and sites like google have tons of them). But with DNS you can just outright block an entire domain (and all its subdomains) with one entry.

So something like pi-hole would be much more effective than using a hosts file?

Yes. Personally I just run the recursive dns resolver on the machine I'm using itself.

Can you do this with the (Linux) version of unbound? On OpenBSD the following works:
local-zone: "google.com." refuse
What allowed me to block every subdomain was the period after ".com" -- but it doesn't work that way on Linux.

I'm not up to date on the state of anti-anti-adblock measures on Pale Meme, but for anyone else sticking it out that can't figure it out on their own here are some tips:

Alternatively, use an extension that lets you do it right from the context menu like Nuke Everything or whatever.
Sometimes the anti-adblock relies on it, and you will refresh and be able to stay on the page indefinitely with no popup.
uMatrix will still block shit, no ads, and the page will stay static - no anti-adblock. :^) I do this as a last resort on sites that require everything enabled but that I still refuse to allow ads on, like a certain popular warez website.

Other information is welcome. It's lonely here in furfag land with everybody switching to webextensions.

Stop teasing, I've already given up hope. Jewgle, Faceberg, and porn kikes will be here until the end of the internet.

Fuck off kike, nobody's falling for your shit. The only way to keep shit free forever is with an authoritarian license like the GPL that ensures that the users' freedoms are not taken away by jews stealing the source code, improving it with the labor of mostly pajeet wageslaves, and closing the source and selling licenses for normalfag shekels. It's only sweet irony or necessity that the idea of the GPL was invented by a liberal jew (redundant), to stop other jews from acting like jews. The kikes will infest free software projects regardless, as we've seen, but at least the code will remain free if anyone bothers to enforce the license.

I like permissive licenses, I really do, but it fails to protect people for the same reasons libertarianism does. It's begging to be subverted by jews. If there were no jews, there would almost assuredly not be (as much of) a problem with these licenses, but to pretend there's nothing wrong with them is burying your head in the sand. It encourages foul play, and I blame the license for not preventing it, even if the kikes are the real problem.

So should someone modify a searx instance only to list web 1.0 / no JS sites ?
Sound like quite a pain to do, but could become quite interesting.

I want this. No Google, no problem. For YouTube, I always wanted a real peer to peer video catalog program, not a webapp. I don't watch porn and fuck Facebook.

How does he know?!

Attached: AozxvDH.jpg (775x768, 127.29K)

I already have a web with no ads with umatrix, ublock, and violentmonkey running anti anti adblock scripts, haven't seen one for nearly 10 years.

What are you proposing as an alternative then?

Cryptominers seems to be the second best option. Piratebay adopts it, I have seen it in many other places that couldn't turn a profit otherwise. But then you still get entitled niggers like OP who have some sort of distorted vision of the world that somehow webhosting is free of costs because we are living in the communist utopia.

Another alternative I can think of is datamining users and selling that data. This works discord, at least for now but then you will make another thread calling discord a malware, a botnet and so on so forth, without actually offering an alternative to their business model. Would you pay for discord if they adopted end-to-end encryption across their clients (like whatsapp) and open-sourced their shit? Of course not. You would just fork the code, made an autistic alternative to discord that nobody would use. You wouldn't need to worry about the costs though, you would never exceed your usage beyond a bottom-of-the-barrel VPS, in absence of a userbase that is.

So I'm asking again OP, what is your solution to this problem?

And they will revolt against you, which is the main issue. You have to guide the sheeple first.

Or matrix, XMPP or one of those cryptocurrency storage solutions

There are replacements, calm down.

Ads = Jewry, Jewry = Enslavement

Now filter the MSM and other kike sites.

IPFS hentai when? (for the rest of you faggots)

Learn to optimize the site and decentralize the load

Sheeples are the only reason why you freetards are not getting things done while Zig Forums does.

Neocities are weak, I would rather have a type of Tumblr (again for the fags) that are optimized such that it is light while the poz does not bat an eye while migrating.

Kids want webgames, so you can't "kill it all", but still I would rather want gameJS to splinter off so that the rest have a lighter experience.

Mr. Hans, should we start getting the gas for these summerfags?

Cryptominers, IPFS/Sia/Maidsafe/Steemit/Joystream, subscription services, academic sites, ANYTHING that is outside jewish control

What about Rocket.chat?

Oh yes. Please please please. I want web to go back to 1.0 days. So that all the faggotry can die and you can still browse net on snail speed.

Attached: 91dcebdb-s.jpg (321x500, 34.98K)

This. We need this so much. I would totally use it to search things.

Attached: 21532003.png (550x387, 64.14K)

He is not entirely wrong. I think there are two kind of programs. Stand-alone programs which you use privately. For these GPL does not matter and may hinder freely adaptation by other projects. The other one is social programs, i.e. chat platforms, email etc. Here you want to keep your userbase and stop corporates from luring them out. So you must protect your code and use GPL.

Attached: 24282828.jpg (600x800, 68.74K)

That is why I want the GPL to be more fash in the first place. anti-GPL on one hand is kikery, on the other we have antifa

Okay, but Matrix and Pawoo > Rocket and Mastodon > Mattermost and GNUSocial

nothing that matters relies on ads. anyway i haven't used an adblocker for 10 years but still haven't noticed any ads in that time because JS is turned off

literally who > literally who > literally who

how to disable ads on palememe:

We all want that. You have to go back.

Single server, open source alternative to Slack, good for one team, as collaboration software, but not as decentralized email-esque end-to end asymmetrically encrypted system what XMPP is where you can write anyone from anywhere without using a manufacturer-provided chrome-based [s]browser[/s] client.

Probably don't need that, since simple catalog would be sufficient

I already have ads disabled. Blocking adblock blockers also requires more than just blocking js, you dense faggot.

Nigger are you lost?

How the fuck are you finding adblock blocker enabled sites. I do not find such sites in my browsing. I think they are not so common. Can you list some examples?
Which brings the second question. Why the fuck are you still browsing those sites? If I see some site telling me to turn off adblockers, I would instantly put that shit to umatrix block list and never visit (or will be able to visit) that again.

No looks like a homo from reddit tbh.

I recently switched computers and forgot to install ublock. Turns out it's not as bad as I remember it. I surf without adblock now.

enjoy getting your shit tracked. There's not even a real downside to using an adblocker.

How will a domain track you if it can't resolve to your machine?

To prevent search engine indexing: d a r k u m b r a
Sometimes you are looking for something, and your heart is set on it, but you can't find something anywhere else but the cancerous side of the internet. I agree that warez forums that force you to "sign up to see this content" or "like this post" are cancer. Sometimes what you're looking for is important enough that you just deal with it. I thankfully don't come across adblock blockers very often. I don't remember any others, they were one and dones.
