If there's one thing that's certain a large segment of the photography community isn't going to care about this or anything else Google does.
Back in the mid 2000's Google offered gratis software called Picasa that was by far the best imaging suite software of that period. It used facial recognition to tag pictures, had easy to use built in non-destructive editing tools, didn't need a Google account or any online connectivity to function and was clearly built for and by professional photographers that needed to organize tens to hundreds of thousands of pictures.
In 2016 they discontinued an excellent product that was around for 12 years in order to push a shitty subscription based cloud solution that couldn't do 1/10th as much. Go on any of the big photography forums and you'll see people grousing about Picasa to this day.

This feature blew my mother's mind when she understood that she'd never have to make another folder for groups of pictures or deal with the terrible windows image viewer ever again. Type a person's name in the search and every picture they're in from early childhood up to old age is displayed chronologically in less than 2 seconds, same for any location or holiday. You can't do that with a cloud service.

That doesn't make any sense if anything they discontinued the product because it allowed people to not include Google when it came to sharing their pictures. Again the program could be used offline and thanks to a firewall I'm pretty sure it never sent out any information.
What's worrying is that they're not just Zig Forums but also increasingly dominate consumer trade and have a gigantic infrastructure.
