"Good developer" implies good software. If "bitches complain" about all the software you write then you're probably not as good of a developer as you think.
I'm confident enough to claim that if Krita was my project (see: I was familiar with all the inner workings and it was written in the language and style and design that I'm comfortable with), I could do a better job than whoever is working on Krita and I would do it for 1500€ per month.

I care about the software and I care about programming. However, enjoying programming is dependent on the programming being enjoyable, and it's not enjoyable if it involves shifting through Pajeet's OOP diarrhea all day and changing your programming practices to be compatible with theirs. Nobody wants to listen to someone else's ideas no matter how obviously valid they are, so it's not like I can help without doing changes myself.
dunno i live on less than $1600USD/month and i work full time on my own software and other projects with no pay or donations. most of that money goes to renting a house (an actual house, as opposed to the other bullshit you can live in)
