Any of you guys have websites?

How many views do you get? Do you advertise it? Do you think neocities is a good long term hosting?

Discuss website making in general. Share links if you want to!

I don't advertise, my sites are for private usage.

I make pages for fun, in the style of the '90s web, but with HTML5 and CSS3 under the hood. Just text and images with some streaming media. No scripts, etc.

The stats are all meaningless. I get 3TB traffic and a million visitors on a site for a local musician. I gave up on trying to sort bots from users. I'd be suprised if more than 10 people a month looked it up. Not gonna link it up to cancer analytics, not like the client cares either way.
no, you have to reach a certain size before it makes any sense to sacrifice good design (and morals), view numbers mostly tracked over java script that comes from god knows where and changes constantly.
No. Use a local hoster if you can. But the best thing is to self host.
It took me 2 years to switch, but I honestly can only recommend it. Parents and friends auto backup to it, you can make a bit of passive income by selling a backup service to local wageslave corps, who value a guy being in charge, who they can call and drive to in case something happens.

But other than that I hate building sites and stopped doing it, it's cancer, client's are never happy. Got lucky and do C work only.

privatebin

I don't have any need for website today. A gopher site maybe, but I could just run that on my home IP.

I got a website hosted on an opennic domain.
I'm not sharing it

I have my own board, if that counts.
I've had two unique posts in the past two months.

Attached: Intruder.gif (276x260, 1.08M)

only a couple a day usually, when I was making more updates a while ago I got up to 100 something views. neocities bumps your page when you update it.
sometimes I share the link online.
probably not but it's nice anyway.

Yeah I host ratwires.space and I'm pretty happy people are posting daily now.

I do the exact same nigger, last time I posted my website I had some spergs call it botnet because it had no DNS but I'll post it anyway.

Does moderating count?
Site was about to officially die and new dev came to save it and solve all the horrific code the last admin hacked up.
Now it fucking works and is good albeit slow paced due to other sites rising. No JS needed to post, no cloudflare. I love the dev.

Also this. I adopted it as BO but I think it's run out months ago despite me regularly visiting.

Neocitites has this arbitrary restriction on the types of files you can use (...even though sites have a 1GB limit), but it can be bypassed pretty easily by just renaming them .png or whatever and manually setting the MIME type. You can also do it the true MIME email attachment way and locally embed them with base64 encoding.
If you want to host any non-static content like an image board, you're going to want your own server. It's not that expensive but you do have to worry about guys wiping your hard drive.

Got a website for my review website project, but it's not advertised and I can't maintaint it right now (on another project for now)

I really dig the design. Reminds me a bit of those MDE-inspired pages.

Yeah I do, I don't know I don't have analitycs or advertising, I don't keep any logs at all (except fail2ban) and I self host

I renamed some codes I wanted to host to txt. Am I OK? Or are they gonna say I circumvented rules?

As far as I can tell, there's no clause in their terms of use about circumventing their system there and getting "VIP" features for free, and they do say that they rarely ever (and don't want to) go as far as actually looking through websites for rulebreaking, so you should be okay. Plus, as long as you don't mention anything, nobody'll be able to really tell that you're not embedding the media from some other website.
Just keep in mind that you do actually run the risk of getting banned, and maybe ruining things for everyone by making them automatically scan files for this kind of thing.
The whole point of the rule is supposedly to stop the website from becoming a "file dump", so if you do the method where you embed the media itself in the page, they're not really going to be able to accuse you of using it as a file host, since those files don't have their own URLs, it's probably okay either way.

Does it work? I've only actually tried using binary-to-text, I'm not actually sure if the first method works at all. It should but I haven't tried.

this is fantastic

frontend isn't "under the hood" lmao
under the hood would be like node, nginx, django etc

I am not dumping GBs of media in the site. I wanted to post some codes of size a few KB. But embedding the codes into website is a faggy thing to do. So I have some textfiles containing codes which I linked. They are not readily executable as txt, so there should not be any concern about malicious files. [Many people host codes in txt files in their sites(not neocities).]

Oh. Mine are not executables, just some scripts. It worked and they are still there.

Cheers m8

I have my art site hosted on Neocities, it's pretty good. You might want to pay the $5 monthly for long term hosting since it gives you extra space.
I've been advertising my site to promote myself but I don't know if it does me any favors.
Thinking of self hosting it but my ISP sucks.

Also if any of you guys make sites with a shit ton of javascript I will come to your house and slit your throat.

I hope your site gets DDoSed

post the link

DNS is botnet, don't fucking understand why anyone uses it in the first place.

Yep, domains are quite cheap and hosting can be obtained for free so why not.
A couple per day.
No.
Looked fine to me, certainly a better choice than (((Google))) or (((GitHub))).

I could take that a step further and say "lol no, it's gnu/linux" "lol no, it's cpu and mem" "lol no, it's electrons and gates".

You get the point and that's all that matters.

Cool site but remove the eye cancer gif.
Someday some old dude will get a heart attack and the police will kick in your door and ask you to remove it in a friendly voice.

imagine being such a pleb developer that you think HTML5 and CSS3 is somehow a differentiator rather than standard

who said that, faggot?

I like the thought of Neocities... but I cannot find anything on the politics of Kyle or if there are a gaggle of goygle-esqe blue haired trannys running the place...

If there are not, and Kyles not an SJeW faggot... then yeah, sounds good to me.

but what's in the brazil page...

When Neocities had just been created, I made a page just for fun, using this cute picture of Arachne-chan. I don't know how it works now, but back then, whenever someone updated his site, it got shown on Neocities' front page. So this picture ended up on the frontpage quite often, hehe. The admin just deleted my site without any warning whatsoever, and when I confronted him about it, he gave me a little speech about how he totally believed in free speech and freedom of expression, but...

Attached: arachne-chan ^_^.jpg (749x599, 67.83K)

Meh, not allowing pron is one thing, being addicted to muh left wing or muh right wing religion is another entirely.

I made a pastiche tribute to geocities once, replete with gifs. Haven't touched it since.

It's not porn, it's art. Arachne-chan is love, Arachne-chan is life.

ok

I guess its gay to have my websites identity tied to a IP since we got fucked by NFO. DNS is aids though.

It is what it is.

Unfinished page. You can view the videos directly inside it (1.mp4 1.webm 2.webm 3.webm)

wobsite? of course I got a wibsite.

wixsite

I have a website that is hosted off of github. Its in a 4chan general op so i imagine a decent amount but i have no idea how to monitor it

I tried teaching myself a bit of HTML5+CSS and I got a basic site pipeline set up. However I hadn't done specific stuff like making sure sizes are alright across platforms and the like. I'll have to use this for a game I'm making, so it does need some level of normie accessibility. Nothing like the awful fully animated garbage that is rampant today though. I also intend to use it as a developer blog, but more like the old fashioned days of making pages and linking to them rather than automated systems with accounts and stuff. You can't hack my website's login data if there is no login data.

You can do automatic scaling based on device id

Interestingly no one has linked to their website yet. Quite a secretive bunch you are...like what the fuck are you scared of? That you'll be accused of shilling? Who gives a shit.

Who cares, just browse their list of sites. There's lots of them.

What does it matter, mines a static plaintext site so i didnt see a point

edin-super-site.neocities.org
i don't give a shit how many people look at my website, it's already terrible
only here
so far so good, but IPFS is the future :^)

Fuck off edin

Take your circlejerk somewhere else, faggots.

this, leave the uninitiated alone :^)

What are you doing nigger

device id? huh?
use viewport
or hell, just use bootstrap
I swear, this board is full of retards larping as developers yet you don't even know basic shit that's taught in undergrad CS courses

Check the insights tab on your github.

post your site, man.

I actually kind of was I guess, nobody else was posting theirs so I figured you guys would call me a faggot. maybe not posting makes me a faggot anyway though.

here it is: floppys-lounge.neocities.org/

someone tell me what you think please.

seems cool to me

Don't see much there except links to other sites. Try adding some of your own content.

I love cyberpunk and the spirit is there, but it looks like shit.

I have a website for kids, it gets 2000 views/month.
I have some other websites, but the stats are shit.
I miss the days when you could just make good content and google would index it appropriately. Nowadays only low quality content from NYTimes, Vice and other leftists media get positioned in the first page.

post those sites, if the content is good they will spread...

You mean like topbabes

Yes. I keep a local website just to have a non-shit Firefox homepage.

I host my own web app on a VPS. About 1000 unique a month.

I'm thinking of setting up a site but I'm not sure where to host it. I'm doing free lance art for magazines and I would like a URL to link back to my stuff.

Self hosting is a lot of hassle when there's so many easy options to host a gallery. I don't care how much shit is running on the site, no one who goes there will care so it's not as big a concern as making it easy to browse and easy to update.

Why would you give people an in to dox you when you can just not?

my tweets get tens of thousands of views per month on twitter but one of my websites only gets like 50 views per month

addendum: this is going by google analytics stats, not awstats

server software stats like awstats shows all traffic, including bots/scrapers/repeat stuff, whereas google analytics tends to give lower and more accurate numbers

stackoverflow.com/questions/4774469/awstats-or-google-analytics-which-is-more-accurate

and if you say "but google analytics is botnet" I don't care, everyone uses it

Fine
karindou.neocities.org/

what kind of stuff would you like to see in a personal webpage? I'm not even sure what to put there and it's been a while since the last update.

what should I improve?

not really my thing but it seems well made.

I threw up an instance of your site
nihilism.rocks/

Anything you want - that's the whole point of personal sites. Maybe you have some thoughts about technology, or society, or anything, in your head, well just dump them there. However let me say that things like "list of anime I've watched" are not very interesting and reek of narcissism. But that's just my opinion. I see you have an anime section - well you can do reviews of that. I know nothing about anime but if I'd ever want to get involved in it, something like that would be useful.

Here's my site BTW: digdeeper.neocities.org. I've posted it here a long time ago and it was mostly shat on, but some people liked it. Well I've continued developing it and there it is.

sage because I forgot to link to my personal homepage.

rchamblee.rocks

That's a honeypot fyi.

Is it really? I know about the warrant canary thing, but if you have some other evidence I'd love to see it. I will have to edit some of my articles then.

I made a NeoCities site. It's supposed to look like an SGI machine. I haven't written an explanation on the front page or anything. Download links to the software are broken until I get time to update and repackage it. Other parts of the site are rough and unfinished.

sgi.neocities.org/

Attached: snapshot3.png (509x365 30.97 KB, 197.31K)

I sort of knew that, but I feel like writing my thoughts is narcissistic too. I thought it would be better to post things that could help people, that's why I put up my process of replacing the battery in my PDA and I figured while I had it open I'd do a full disassembly so people could have a look. Granted I have a blog page, but a blog is expected to be personal.

As for the anime section I just liked some shows and thought they'd fit in with my site, but after starting I realized I don't know what I'd say, it would just be my opinions anyway, so I didn't do any more with it. If I could at least host some cool related winamp skins or something it would be nice.

well, maybe I will get around to writing a short blurb or something about what I've watched.

>Here's my site BTW: digdeeper.neocities.org.
so you're the guy Spyware talks about. I really like your site, it's pretty good and seems informative.

This is my website:
spyware.neocities.org/

It's doing OK, but I need to write more stuff for it. I haven't updated it much lately and it needs work. I've never been consistent in updating this site and it seems that 80% of the articles are written in certain "productive periods" of time where I feel less lazy.

I made this a year ago. It's on a free host, so it fails occasionally. garftse.000webhostapp.com/

Garftse = Garfield + Goatse.... I like it.

what's up spyware, how's it going?

I've been thinking--your site is great for linking to to point out the botnet in a lot of things. Do you think you could do articles on the practices of entire companies? Having an article on, say, google's business practices would be neat, and anytime someone asks you could point them to that article.

It would be a harder task and might take a bit of digging and some work to polish and verify the sources, but it would be cool. You could probably get some people to help you by sending in articles/links or verifying things.

Currently Stallman has good page as a starting point to look at the general practices of Google: stallman.org/google.html

I don't think it would be so unreasonable to have at least something about Google as a company. There are already articles about some of the software it makes, so there is already a good foundation.

Probably another company that could be easily written about is Oath. The article on Yahoo search is really mostly just about how horrible Oath is, and so it could be restructured so that one main article about Oath can branch off to specifics about it's holdings- mainly Yahoo/AOL Search, and Tumblr, I know it has other stuff but I can't name those things off the top of my head.

Here's an attempt at a start: spyware.neocities.org/articles/google.html

Basically just consolidating links to information about Google already on the site onto one page. Still right now Stallman's page is way more useful than mine, so I would show people his page first. It's a very good idea though, and it makes it much easier for me to put stuff up.

I just noticed that RMS himself linked to your page. Moving up the ladder, huh?

it's nice. I just thought that maybe (if you wanted to go in this direction) you could attempt to make the article more normie-friendly. The thing about RMS is he's quite a character and honestly can be off-putting, and for many people it may be hard to understand why "libre" is good.

it looks great so far. One thing that I think has made your site more popular is the way you write your articles, they're generally well-written and clear. I've seen your site linked pretty often, certainly more than I see stallman's site. Although that may be an effect of where I spend my time.

RMS has linked to my page for a while now. Actually that is really the reason that the site became so popular. I hadn't really updated much since I wrote my first articles with digdeeper, and suddenly a huge amount of people started reading it. When RMS linked too it, it was really in bad shape. The first iteration of the site, which wasn't saved on archive.org unfortunately, used two different rating systems across all the articles, because I had this idea of rating things based on points for having spyware features, and digdeeper used his own rating style (out of 5 ratings) on his articles, which was really a better idea, and so I had to spend a lot of time cleaning up all the articles and adding new ones so that it would be a better resource.

I think one reason that you might see my site more is because it isn't written in any kind of partisan way, it just promotes one idea. That makes it easier to get the point across, maybe. It's hard to criticize the site on anything other than it's ideas about privacy, because there isn't anything else there to look at.

My idea, which I have had for a while, but haven't taken the time to actually do it, is to write about video games more. The site mostly has content about web browsers, and so you mostly see it on forums and discussions about web browsers; but having a lot of content about games could get people to talk about it on video game forums, which have a much wider audience, and there is a lot more to write about.

I was thinking about this and looked at Stallman's page again. I think that we're both being very unfair to him since we both criticized him on some level "in general" and totally ignored the actual page in question. It's a very good page, there is nothing there but links to various articles that explain why you shouldn't use Google in a perfectly clear way, so I can't agree anymore since his page is very clean and to-the-point.

Sage for double-posting

The recent deltarune game apparently has some spyware in it - you might want to check it out. It is hugely popular.

Holy shit, they successfully shot some favelado with an SMG from a helicopter

Are you a faggot or just stupid?

oh yeah, it's a good page, no doubt, but I just see him as potentially offputting to a lot of people, and IMHO if you want to make a difference you need to appeal to all those people. it doesn't help preaching to the choir, if you understand what I mean.

the guys was suggesting he "check it out" and by that he means that spyware watchdog should analyze it. he'd probably do it inside a VM anyway.

this is a great idea. I don't post on video game forums or anything but if they're popular than that could definitely help. But make sure not to overdo it, you don't want the whole thing to be flooded with only video game articles.

neat, it looks a bit like the sites made with werc

i made a website in neocities like 2 months ago and i already have almost 8000 views, comfy

Yes
Just me. It's for personal data collection and home surveillance.
I used to use LEMP for hosting, but PHP is shit and, after I discovered Go's HTTP package, I entirely dropped that model. I may move to using C as soon as I can find a decent enough C library.

I use Javashit to get GPS and orientation data as well as drawing out my charts on canvases.

I am just wondering why javascript and ONLY javascript is considered to be so unsafe on here? And what do you guys use to have interactive websites if not javascript.

I only know the basics of CSS but i assume it can't be used to make a post form that will display the comment on the page.

We believe that most of the web does not need to be dynamic and increasing complexity on server-side applications is one of the main reasons for the web obesity crisis. The common approach nowadays is to do everything on the server, including parsing requests, modifying files and databases, generating HTML and all that using unfit languages like PHP or JavaScript, which is a security and efficiency nightmare.

Over the years we have seen massive amounts of security holes in numerous applications of tools commonly used for these jobs (PHP, node.js, CGI-implementations, …). The reason why we are in this situation in the first place is due to the fact that the jobs of data processing and data presentation, which should be separate, converged together into one.

The solution is to rely on static regeneration independent from the web server, which just serves static files. You can still implement e.g. form handlers for dynamic content which run as their own network instance and operate independently from the web server. What’s left is just to generate the static content using the database and repeating this process in case the database is updated.

This way the jobs of data processing and data presentation are separate again, with many advantages. All requests are handled with constantly low latency, with the possibility of serving everything directly from RAM (using a ramfs). Separated concerns make it very unattractive to attack the web server itself and the attack surface that is left, if it is present at all, is the separate form handler, which can be implemented in a very simple, safe and efficient manner.

In case there is an attack on this infrastructure and the attacker manages to DoS the form handler, the serving of content is still unaffected.

Adenda: BCHS(BSD, C, httpd, SQLite), Golang are ways to implement sites with static site generation and sane, limited form handlers

I run a website which has .onion address on Tor nerwork.

I made it using Python and Django.

Yes. None. I've been paying to host an "under construction" page for a few months now. Too busy being a wage cuck to do anything with it.

Give the hosting to me then ^_^

Which text editor do you guys use?
I have been using Visual Studio Code but i heard that nodejs is better.

webdevs everyone
