Site was about to officially die and new dev came to save it and solve all the horrific code the last admin hacked up.
Now it fucking works and is good albeit slow paced due to other sites rising. No JS needed to post, no cloudflare. I love the dev.

Neocitites has this arbitrary restriction on the types of files you can use (...even though sites have a 1GB limit), but it can be bypassed pretty easily by just renaming them .png or whatever and manually setting the MIME type. You can also do it the true MIME email attachment way and locally embed them with base64 encoding.
If you want to host any non-static content like an image board, you're going to want your own server. It's not that expensive but you do have to worry about guys wiping your hard drive.

As far as I can tell, there's no clause in their terms of use about circumventing their system there and getting "VIP" features for free, and they do say that they rarely ever (and don't want to) go as far as actually looking through websites for rulebreaking, so you should be okay. Plus, as long as you don't mention anything, nobody'll be able to really tell that you're not embedding the media from some other website.
Just keep in mind that you do actually run the risk of getting banned, and maybe ruining things for everyone by making them automatically scan files for this kind of thing.
The whole point of the rule is supposedly to stop the website from becoming a "file dump", so if you do the method where you embed the media itself in the page, they're not really going to be able to accuse you of using it as a file host, since those files don't have their own URLs, it's probably okay either way.

Does it work? I've only actually tried using binary-to-text, I'm not actually sure if the first method works at all. It should but I haven't tried.

I am not dumping GBs of media in the site. I wanted to post some codes of size a few KB. But embedding the codes into website is a faggy thing to do. So I have some textfiles containing codes which I linked. They are not readily executable as txt, so there should not be any concern about malicious files. [Many people host codes in txt files in their sites(not neocities).]

When Neocities had just been created, I made a page just for fun, using this cute picture of Arachne-chan. I don't know how it works now, but back then, whenever someone updated his site, it got shown on Neocities' front page. So this picture ended up on the frontpage quite often, hehe. The admin just deleted my site without any warning whatsoever, and when I confronted him about it, he gave me a little speech about how he totally believed in free speech and freedom of expression, but...

I tried teaching myself a bit of HTML5+CSS and I got a basic site pipeline set up. However I hadn't done specific stuff like making sure sizes are alright across platforms and the like. I'll have to use this for a game I'm making, so it does need some level of normie accessibility. Nothing like the awful fully animated garbage that is rampant today though. I also intend to use it as a developer blog, but more like the old fashioned days of making pages and linking to them rather than automated systems with accounts and stuff. Self hosting is a lot of hassle when there's so many easy options to host a gallery. I don't care how much shit is running on the site, no one who goes there will care so it's not as big a concern as making it easy to browse and easy to update.

I sort of knew that, but I feel like writing my thoughts is narcissistic too. I thought it would be better to post things that could help people, that's why I put up my process of replacing the battery in my PDA and I figured while I had it open I'd do a full disassembly so people could have a look. Granted I have a blog page, but a blog is expected to be personal.

As for the anime section I just liked some shows and thought they'd fit in with my site, but after starting I realized I don't know what I'd say, it would just be my opinions anyway, so I didn't do any more with it. If I could at least host some cool related winamp skins or something it would be nice.

I've been thinking--your site is great for linking to to point out the botnet in a lot of things. Do you think you could do articles on the practices of entire companies? Having an article on, say, google's business practices would be neat, and anytime someone asks you could point them to that article.

It would be a harder task and might take a bit of digging and some work to polish and verify the sources, but it would be cool. You could probably get some people to help you by sending in articles/links or verifying things.

I don't think it would be so unreasonable to have at least something about Google as a company. There are already articles about some of the software it makes, so there is already a good foundation.

Probably another company that could be easily written about is Oath. The article on Yahoo search is really mostly just about how horrible Oath is, and so it could be restructured so that one main article about Oath can branch off to specifics about it's holdings- mainly Yahoo/AOL Search, and Tumblr, I know it has other stuff but I can't name those things off the top of my head.

it looks great so far. One thing that I think has made your site more popular is the way you write your articles, they're generally well-written and clear. I've seen your site linked pretty often, certainly more than I see stallman's site. Although that may be an effect of where I spend my time.

RMS has linked to my page for a while now. Actually that is really the reason that the site became so popular. I hadn't really updated much since I wrote my first articles with digdeeper, and suddenly a huge amount of people started reading it. When RMS linked too it, it was really in bad shape. The first iteration of the site, which wasn't saved on archive.org unfortunately, used two different rating systems across all the articles, because I had this idea of rating things based on points for having spyware features, and digdeeper used his own rating style (out of 5 ratings) on his articles, which was really a better idea, and so I had to spend a lot of time cleaning up all the articles and adding new ones so that it would be a better resource.

I think one reason that you might see my site more is because it isn't written in any kind of partisan way, it just promotes one idea. That makes it easier to get the point across, maybe. It's hard to criticize the site on anything other than it's ideas about privacy, because there isn't anything else there to look at.

My idea, which I have had for a while, but haven't taken the time to actually do it, is to write about video games more. The site mostly has content about web browsers, and so you mostly see it on forums and discussions about web browsers; but having a lot of content about games could get people to talk about it on video game forums, which have a much wider audience, and there is a lot more to write about.

I was thinking about this and looked at Stallman's page again. I think that we're both being very unfair to him since we both criticized him on some level "in general" and totally ignored the actual page in question. It's a very good page, there is nothing there but links to various articles that explain why you shouldn't use Google in a perfectly clear way, so I can't agree anymore since his page is very clean and to-the-point.

We believe that most of the web does not need to be dynamic and increasing complexity on server-side applications is one of the main reasons for the web obesity crisis. The common approach nowadays is to do everything on the server, including parsing requests, modifying files and databases, generating HTML and all that using unfit languages like PHP or JavaScript, which is a security and efficiency nightmare.

Over the years we have seen massive amounts of security holes in numerous applications of tools commonly used for these jobs (PHP, node.js, CGI-implementations, …). The reason why we are in this situation in the first place is due to the fact that the jobs of data processing and data presentation, which should be separate, converged together into one.

The solution is to rely on static regeneration independent from the web server, which just serves static files. You can still implement e.g. form handlers for dynamic content which run as their own network instance and operate independently from the web server. What’s left is just to generate the static content using the database and repeating this process in case the database is updated.

This way the jobs of data processing and data presentation are separate again, with many advantages. All requests are handled with constantly low latency, with the possibility of serving everything directly from RAM (using a ramfs). Separated concerns make it very unattractive to attack the web server itself and the attack surface that is left, if it is present at all, is the separate form handler, which can be implemented in a very simple, safe and efficient manner.

In case there is an attack on this infrastructure and the attacker manages to DoS the form handler, the serving of content is still unaffected.

Adenda: BCHS(BSD, C, httpd, SQLite), Golang are ways to implement sites with static site generation and sane, limited form handlers
