Mastodon instances are mildly entertaining in that they often have more entries in their fediverse block lists than they have entries in their user lists.

>(((Gab))) goes down
Mastodon is garbage but there's some decent GNU Social and Pleroma instances if you really want microblogging.

So much complexity and different protocols yet all those social media platforms are still shittier than basic 100 line imageboard script. Massive amount of faggotry also doesn't help.

if you're into twitter, yes, the fediverse is better. Just make sure you register with someone that won't ban you for getting flack from trannies, because there's a fuckton of them and like their suicide rates suggest, they are totally nuts.
but you really shouldn't be into twitter. Just look at it. And then look at the nanochan thread. 2k lines of Lua and tor-only.
Pleroma is pretty cool though, and the only one that's written in a non-shit language.

I really doubt there's much CP there. The whole point of social neworking is to weave the noose that the feds would hang any pedo with.
If you're talking about mongolian pottery, go fuck yourself.

We already have GNUsocial as a twitter replacement. No need for new garbage.

In case it's not clear, GNU social implements the same protocol as Mastodon or Pleroma, and they're all part of the "Fediverse" because they're all communicating with OStatus.

This, they've essentially become open reddit, hyper-curating any errant thought from the apathetic centrist's view.

okay, got it

GNU social is shit tier. Fedi is miles better.

GNU Social is part of the fediverse, faggot.

Couldn't you host a Pleroma instance and use it as your blog, with the benefit of being able to interact with other users too?

yeah, technically. I'd make more sense as a microblogging component of a blog, as normally you'd want longer posts, indexes of older posts, revision of posts, more advanced stylings, etc.
with a personal blog you have maximum freedom (nobody can kick you; ban-happy instances will have to ban you individually) but you lose the "local stuff" and "stuff local people are following" streams of posts that gives you more of a sense of community.

Federation is super gay because on a whim your instance owner can decide he doesn't like another instance and cut you off from the people you interact with.

You either need a centrallized service which is dedicated to being anti-censorship, or you need a P2P network where nobody other than yourself can decide to block people from speaking with you

> Not using social.ordoevangelistarum.com

ded
gay

theres actual reasons to do this because of gay laws, but these fucking retards do not take risks and they're just being gay and think 2d images are child porn, total xd

...

GNU Social WAS the fedi for a long time. It's being superseded by Pleroma and Mastodon, but it's still around.

That sense of community sounds fun.
Might be a reason for me not to self host my personal instance.

This can be solved with selfhosting.
But there is a docker container for Mastodon, but none for Pleroma. So to run Pleroma one needs to be able to follow the instructions.

Even the former good parts of the fediverse are riddled with faggotry and trannies now.
Stay far away.

For a while there was an invasion of pedos that had to be fended off, especially on freezepeach.xyz
There was a theory that they formed a secret instance somewhere, a theory I found evidence of.
I doubt it still exists or even if it does you probably couldn't find it though.
That's a good thing, or it was.
Now I just want the whole place put out of its misery, even if that's done by the feds.

GNU social is pretty much on life support right now. If ya want to start your own server(s), then better look into hosting Pleroma BE/FE. I hope ya niggers like Elixir.

Oh, and stay away from Mastodon unless ya wanna catch the big gay.

Anyone here tried Hubzilla?
Of the Federation/Fediverse stuff I tried it looked to be the most promising.

This right here is your home user. Don't fall for memes, don't try to leave for no reason.

obey the pig farmer, little piggy

I dunno if "life support" is the best way to describe the situation. StatusNet was the prototype, GNUSoc was the MRK 1, and Bleroma and Mastodong are the MRk 2a and MRK 2b.

It was literally 2 faggots that got BTFO'd as soon as they posted anything against the one rule.

If mastodon is anything it's a technical failure made by an incompetent. That shit uses more resources than a fucking web browser. The resources needed for it to work are tremendous compared to what it does.

There's so many names here. Hubzilla? GNU Social? Pleroma? Mastodon? Statusnet?
Are these all different social media networks? Are they all different implementations of the same thing? Can they talk between each other? What's the difference between these and 'instances'?
I don't even really care, since I don't use social media to begin with, but I highly doubt you're gonna get the normies or really even any large number of people on board with this idea. There needs to be one name, one brand, that people can rally behind and be like, "this is our answer to social media". Without that, people will likely get overburdened with this and just go back to recognized names. "Twitter". "Instagram". "Gab".

This is why you just call it the Fediverse.
