I think the issue is that for many people there haven't been enough good faith actions from Trump to justify trusting him; the recent bump stock bullshit in particular really alienated a lot of people. It might be realpolitik or 4D chess or whatever and he might come through in spades later but in the meantime a lot of people are feeling at best unappreciated and at worst betrayed.

I personally never really expected anything from him beyond generating liberal butthurt but I can certainly see how people who viewed him as the second coming are upset with him at the moment.
