AI architectures need to be designed for the task they're performing. There is no such thing as a "General" AI. One might argue that evolutionary algorithms might be like this, but those are sufficiently slow to train that we're not going to use them to do anything useful any time soon.
No self-respecting company is going to do this within the next decade. The first time it screws up anything - which it will, because our AIs are not perfect - the company catches a stupidly giant amount of flak. Think about how much shit Comcast gets for their goddamn shitty customer support. Now imagine if you knew the people behind the line weren't humans.
