The late Weimar Republic pretty much did the same thing - and turned into the Third Reich, thanks to a president that was willing to exploit the power of his office to the fullest extent and giving no fucks about the Reichstag. In the end, that president appointed the only viable option as /ourguy/ in the Wilhelmstraße. That president was Paul von Hindenburg, Feldmarschall a.D.
