Diesel is less polluting than gas/petrol, though. Plus, it also takes gas to MAKE the vehicles and parts for the vehicles in the first place, but these greentards don't get that.

Seen as you're charging them from the grid its not even that great in use.
So you drive around with some batteries in your car, big deal. You just shift energy production for your vehicle to a power station somewhere that could be coal fired, gas fired, nuclear etc. Then of course their are losses in transmission to the point where you charge. But out of sight out of mind I guess.
A diesel engine would work out less polluting and more cost efficient.
