It is now fairly clear that at some point in the future, the United States of America will cease to exist as a viable political, economic, and social entity. I’m going to trade school to learn to weld, my best advice is for you to learn a trade, if you plan on moving by the coast an IT job would be good. Trades are ideal to learn.

Oregon is the bomb but housing is insanely overpriced and the "government" at the county level is very overbearing. That said its worth it but you have to buy land zoned Ag or Forest and just squat. Been doing it for years with no issues.
Get a few acres with some good doug fir and a small creek out of the way and build a log cabin. Stay quiet and dont burn it all down and no one will bother you anywhere outside of the major cities and primary valley bottom. Sourthern Oregon and thousand valleys areas are AWESOME for this. Josephine county is ripe for this type of stuff as they have no cops and no money for any enforcement of any kind. That is THE place to go. Go as a group of families and you can get more land and start a little community.

He started prettt simple, worked for the maintenance department of a local lumber company/processor, then when he had the money bought his own shop and ran a business independent. Self employed and made great money doing it.

I just worked there during grad school, he’d give me odd jobs like fixing up old dumpsters or building custom work benches and shit. People would come to me with problems and if I thought I could tackle it I’d give em an estimate and then get it done. Good side hustle.
So can’t comment on pipe welding or any of the more specialized things but I see posted positions all the time for maintainence departments looking for low skilled welders, perfect entry level jobs. From there save up a bit on the side and open your own business, more freedom and a shit ton of demand

Pipeline welders don’t own their equipment. The company does. It does cost $100k+ and it only welds pipes.
You start off as a bitch, hauling equipment and hooking lines up and shoveling snow and stuff like that. It does take several years to even touch a welder and it is in fact very cliquey. You might work ten years on the pipeline and never touch a welder. But you also won’t go to prison or lose your life savings and your career if the weld fails due to negligence so there’s ups and downs.
You can make good money anywhere in the country as a welder even if you just make exhaust pipes. It’s a great job and it’s fun to do too. You can make toolboxes, motorcycles, all kinds of shit. Pipe welders stare at a control panel and watch a robot go around a pipe, over and over, every day. You don’t even have a view. You do all your work in a shack that covers everything.
Electrician and Lineman jobs are decent too. Journeyman wage is retarded in Oregon and Washington. Lots of travel so while you're away a lot, you see a lot of beautiful country.

Covington is a bit of a sperg. This makes sense. It takes a certain type to embark on narrative ventures like the NWF novels. If he had grown up much later I would probably type him as the kid who really likes Halo, and the Halo expanded universe. If you really like military LARP, you'll really like the novels, especially as they proceed up the tech tree (although he has zero understanding of encryption and I felt a desperate need to interject and tell these poor nazis about FOSS, FOSH, and GPG). Tactics and jargon are lived-in, and critically, inviting.
The author tends to have baddies ramble at length about his own goals, marveling at the inexorable success of de rayciss white folks for pages on end. I don't think that's a big problem, personally, since these books are meant to serve a purpose beyond the narrative. They're talking to you, begging you, really, to get off your ass and "DO SOMETHING," with the promise that God or your ancestors will have your back.
The books deal heavily with the relations and conflict between different pro-White 'factions,' essentially larpagans, christcucks, and stormfags. Covington repeatedly presents the solution as similar to that one IronPill comic where everybody establishes that they all put the volk first and foremost and work it out. The politicking here is interesting, especially later on as the Republic stabilizes and faces its own internal issues.
And speaking of the Republic, we do eventually get to see Covington's vision of a White homeland, a functioning ethnostate, decades down the line with all that entails. Dueling is legal and the sex war is long gone. Programs are designed to uplift and support the family. Incentives are aligned. I do feel longing.
