Regardless, German American, Italian American, Irish American, etc… they've all assimilated into the anglo-saxon protestant lifestyle by now, unless they're fresh off the boat. If you aren't American, our school system specifically teaches a lot of our own history in order to promote a unified identity, which involves "us" winning our independence from Great Britain, despite a lot of people having zero ancestors in the USA at the time.
