If you give up materialism and the pursuit of wordly goods, none of this matters. If you can build your house, grow your food, and take care of the health and well being of yourself and your loved ones, you pretty much have it made.
Fwiw I do not think you even need to buy a piece of land to buuld a home on. If you go innawoods enough you can surely plop down a comfy cottage and by the time anyone has found it you could have lived there well enough to establish a homestead and get some rights to it.
