The military definitely plays a major and usually unseen role in the American economy, foreign and domestic. Domestically, it's a major source of jobs. Getting a military base, factory, training center, etc in their state is like an aphrodisiac to a senator. They pay high wages, offer secure jobs, and it really looks good for them all around.
The unsaid part though is that the out of state capital brought in by these bases is sometimes the only thing keeping broad regions within that state afloat. It comes at a major premium though, because every base is a city unto itself, so the outlying economy has to fight like hell to actually squeeze any money out of the personnel, and gouge the non-military contract workers that work on the base.
That's just in the domestic US. The way the military functions off in its colonies in the Pacific is even more fucked up, where basically the military is the sole source of outside income for desperately poor people.
the "military" budget is actually just all the NEW tanks their buying each year. That would explain how their military spending is more than the next 3 countries combined despite China having more GDP
In major part, yeah, but the military not only buys tons of new equipment every year, it sinks billions into R&D (the price tag on the F-35's development alone would stop the heart of a fiscal conservative), but each discrete branch of the American military is for all intents and purposes a separate military. Each one has their own fleet of armored vehicles, aircraft, ships, foot soldiers, logistics, etc etc etc. I've heard rumors of "Trump" wanting to start a spacy now, too, which would mean between the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines, what I'm sure would be a fifth whole standing army with its whole complement of tanks and shit.
Too bad there's the very real possibility of none of it being worth a damn against a completely demoralized enemy or farmers with AKs. I'm not up on my current military happenings, but from the little I've read it seems like there's a real chance of the whole structure being completely rotted within, and without the US's ridiculous tech advantage is mired in incompetence and hubris.
the bastards always equate welfare with niggers and spics
Fun fact, at any given time there are more white people on welfare than there exists black people in the whole United States.
