Because diversity quotas are neoliberal feelgood band-aid fixes that perpetuates a broken system. They doesn't target the root problems of oppression, but are a mere lottery that puts a few token minorities into positions they may or may not have otherwise got through merit. Now I can't tell if the black woman they hired on to our dev team is actually a good programmer or just got there because the company doesn't want to be sued, and if it's the later we now have a burden to put up with.
I think part of this need for diversity is actually caused by the capitalistic brainwashing of needing to keep up with the Joneses. The idea that if a profession has too few of X demographic that it somehow implies a lack of skill in the field and not just interest, and that an individual of that minority is somehow betraying their idpol-spookgroup by not perusing a career they're not interested in.
