Now that I went though the Jacobin article: there is nothing useful in it. It just complains that Orban and his movement support all these far right measures, and that none of the opposition dares go against much of it.
But where is the socialist critique, and a suggestion of an alternative way forward? Orban has won the election. What needs to be studied is why he has done so, what the conditions were that allowed for his rise, what the standpoints were that had such broad appeal, and what alternatives the left might offer up that would appeal to people.
Just standing on the sidelines shouting "das raycis", and appealing to the EU to somehow fix things by sanctioning Hungary is worse than useless. This is not the EU's problem to fix, it's a problem of the Hungarians, and most particularly the Hungarian left. Any actions the Eu takes will only strengthen the position of Orban, just as has happened with Putin in Russia.
