Do not be a janitor at night. As help to a friend I started working at a mall on 3rd shift cleaning it up. It will get to you so fast you'll want to kill yourself after a week. It is so disgustingly Sisyphean. My colleagues were great, I was treated well (still exploited obviously), and it was an "easy job" but it was taxing mentally. I quit after a month and now I'm sitting on $1100 (after upgrading my computer a bit) unsure of what to do with it.
I want some bees.
But seriously, it's mentally grating to be a janitor. Especially at a shitty mall where the power is on 24/7, there's no recycling, you pick up the same messes every single day, etc. I was told I couldn't recycle on company time because the company itself didn't want it done and I was told I could be fired for it. That was kind of the last nail in the coffin for me, too. As someone that really cares about the environment and went to school for environmental science it killed me. The "RECYCLE" signs on the trash bins are lies too, and that really bothered me.
I still bring my colleagues food I cook sometimes, though.
