He let the capitalists back in

p i z z a h u t

...

user, when you do something "bad" knowingly and fully aware, you didn't fuck up.

^this
It was a conscious decision.
Can only hope he dies in great pain for what he has done.

it really was the whole parties fault letting it come that far
read some of his "earlier" shit and i was just outright disgusted how plainly obvious of a socdem he was
that he got to the position of general secretary with that sort of shit is the bigger issue

admittedly, that was badass.

What does this mean? How could they be so much more productive?

Because of price subsidization as well as provided benefits like healthcare, housing and education, meaning that while people earned less monetarily, they still got the same basics, and for far less. The USSR outproduced the USA in many areas, it was slow on commodity production but that was because they were built to last, and there was no consumerist culture with a massive demand to buy stuff. The slight lack in commodities was also caused by the fact that the USSR had started from what was essentially a lower foothold than the USA: after WW-2 the USSR had to restore all critical industry first, and think of amenities later. The USA was almost untouched by the war and its economy rode the momentum of the war-effort to rise up quickly. Despite that, the USSR was literally on the USA's coat-tails in commodities, and on par with the USA in all other aspects, (and even ahead in some areas).

Khrushchev did that

No he didn't.

GDP just measures how much money changes hands. Given that in the USA someone has their hand in your pocket if you take a piss, and in the USSR a lot of shit was provided gratis, it is a meaningless statistic.

Honestly Khrushchev was in power during the golden years of the USSR. Give Brezhnev the shit he deserves instead.

literally rode off the exponential growth of the Stalin era and slackened it, and dumped that decay onto Brezhnev who tried to do something with it, but gave up in his later years as he grew senile

still doesn't excuse Brezhnev for giving up and throwing

Brezhnev didn't "give up" on anything. He achieved more than Khrushchev (he was a lot more competent as well) and actually brang back collective leadership. the golden years of the USSR lasted until about the seventies when thins started to slow down and Brezhnev should have handed the torch to Andropov instead of waiting until he died.
also a reminder that Brezhnev is the Russians favourite Soviet leader

Was stagnation capitalist propaganda?

the term "era of stagnation" was literally coined by Brezhnev. the economy didn't stagnate, it was still growing just at a slower pace than it had years before. the only serious problem under Brezhnev was corrupt groups within the party, which would have been cracked down on had he let Andropov take over earlier.

meant to say coined by Gorbachev*
