If you have ever been unfortunate enough to spend any amount of time with large unions or soc-dem parties; You would know that they are corrupted at a fundamental level.
Pretty much everyone that 'earns' an income from these sorts of institutions only give a damn about being able to keep that easy money coming indefinitely.
Hence soc-dems and large unions are incapable of refocussing on class due to the people that lead these organisations wanting to maintain the largest base of support possible.
Even replacing this waged leadership class is not an option, due to the seemingly endless stream of opportunistic parasites that are happy to play the internal political game in the hopes of scoring such an easy income one day.
The universal embracement of neo-liberalism and id-pol among soc-dem parties and large unions is not an accident.
It is simply the optimal strategy for embedded, greedy interests to maintain their lifestyles.

Failure of the Finnish revolution has more to do with Soviets cutting their aid to us following treaty of brest-litovsk than German and Swedish intervention. Finnish red guards started quite literally running out of ammunition.

This is the wrong question to be asking under bourgeois democracy.
If you focus on the genuine working class, you will lose. Period. There are two ways you can lose:
FPTP style - you will never win a majority because you would need 40%+ of 50%+1 of constituencies to be working class or major, ridiculous levels of vote splitting.
PR style - you will become part of the governing coalition, either explicitly or through tacit support, leaving you equally useless.
The real question is how you get middle class people to vote in ways that may conflict with their own interests, but align with their perceived interests. What you need in essence is someone who is comfortable in those social circles and knows how to massage a political message without, at the same time, compromising on policy itself. Tony Blair's face on Corbyn's policy platform. The results there will still be social democracy lite, but that's about the best you're going to do.
But then this all entails recognizing that there are deep and meaningful divisions amongst people who don't own the means of production.
Corruption implies individual moral failure. Parliamentary democracy systematically wears down everything.
Furthermore on unions themselves, legislation is often a massive part of the problem. It's not just that unions got cowardly, but that unions have been put in a position where you'll go to jail for going on sympathy strike.
social democracy didn't exist at the start of the millennium, let alone the end of this decade.
