It's not even dengists that are the issue here, it's vulgar anti-imperialism. It's soft, well fed westerners unironically trying to tell the Chinese working class that they shouldn't struggle against capital because the geopolitical conditions aren't right. There will always be an imperialist power analogous to the current US that you can point to as the "real" enemy instead of capitalism in general, and so following their logic there will always be an excuse to shill for some porky government to crush its working class because they need to focus on fighting the empire rather than waging class struggle.
