I live in Japan, and I can tell you confidently that the Communist Party of Japan is just a succdem party. Read their manifesto on their website. Their main tenets are
1. protectionism
2. peaceful cooperation in East Asia
3. Disarmament
Those last two goals cannot be achieved, though, without a strong China to stand up to the USA. So the party wants to pursue pacifism while simultaneously establishing friendly relations with China. This means China becomes new regional daddy. Which is why the Communist Part of Japan will never gain popular support in Japan.

Most unions here are strictly corporate unions, in that they do not organize collective bargaining situations. Rather, the unions are delegated the roles of managing employee healthcare, benefits, etc. They have, to be frank, a secretarial role, as far as workers are concerned.
Japan is aging quickly and hard. It's also doubling down on participating in international liberal trade agreements. The LDP government just signed a free trade deal with the EU, for example, and it's headstrong on taking a leadership role in ASEAN. Many of the most successful multinational corporations are Japanese, and Japanese zaibatsu routinely conduct extraction operations in the rainforests of Brazil, copper mines in the Philippines, etc. etc.
All these programs are a boon for Japan's pension system, its welfare state, etc. etc. And, to be frank, the population of tottering olds isn't rearing for a revolution any time soon.
So, to answer your question, there is no immediate hope for Japan to make a shift to the left. We can only hope that, as the LDP moves to further privatize sections of the welfare state, like medicine, there willl be a loud succdem opposition.
But really, the rling party is neoliberal (with a reactionary wing), and the opposition party is just neoliberal.

This was seen in Russia just 2 months ago, where major trade unions aligned with Putin's governing party started protesting against Putin's policies. Considering Japan is actually a liberal democracy, I would imagine the backlash will be more substantial.
If I were you, I would try to get your org (if you are a member of one) to start trying to infiltrate trade unions, or perhaps set-up a "grass-roots" wing to coordinate the inevitable protests between the trade unions and your org. If you need a basis, Momentum is a good one to go off.

2. Most people think of young students as the main perpetrators of revolutionary activity, but this is only a fairly recent conception propagated after the Cultural Revolution. The fact is, in rural areas, old people (40+) are armed with farming equipment, crossbows, and occasionally guns. It's the modern young people that are inert regarding physical struggle.

So, the issue of a yakuza is a complicated one, but I'll try to answer your question and concisely and specifically as possible.

It depends on where you are located. For example, in cities of around 100k to 500k people, Yakuza families don't maintain much of a presence. This can be tallied up to a variety of reasons, but an obvious one is that there's not much money in dying cities. If you were to ask me that question 30 years ago, I could point out a Yakuza family chapter in every medium-sized Japanese city. But now, many family chapters have closed due to lack of money.
There is also the component of membership. The fact is, many young people don't want to be Yakuza. Self-expression is discouraged, you don't make as much money as you used to (back when Yakuza activities were more open), and there are no real benefits to the job. The Yakuza operates now like a generic Japanese company, except they deal in Mahjong (sp?), human trafficking, Joshi Kosei, etc.
There is also the fact that many of the large families have splintered in the past 10 years. So, to put it bluntly, the Yakuza is not as strong as it used to be, but yes, it still plays a part in Japanese society. It still makes quite a bit of money, but it's not the lavish job people want. Normal company jobs, like shipbuilding companies, provide entry-level jobs with benefits to young people with little experience, because they do on-job training. The work is hell – grueling and long – but there's a net positive compared to being Yakuza.
