Redpill me on DPRK

Redpill me on DPRK. How much stuff is made up propaganda? Tell me general non biased stuff about DPRK. Also, I have seen in lots of videos that north Koreans are restricted to like 26 hairstyles. Sounds pretty ridiculous, how true is it?

Chances are anything you heard from any mainstream media is just propaganda. That doesn't mean there aren't any actual criticisms of the DPRK.

i'm sure some other anons will drop some good stuff but regarding haircuts the media changed it from "every has to have a kim jong un haircut" to "no one is allowed to have a kim jong un haircut" to "they can only have X amount of haircuts"
some guys did a good video on this and debunked all of the bullshit regarding these lies
youtube.com/watch?v=2BO83Ig-E8E
they also did a follow up video basically showing that despite proving that the DPRK isn't some nightmare country all the morning shows they went on would pull the "THEY RISKED THEIR LIVES TO SHOW THE TRUTH OF NORTH KOREA" shtick, basicically shitting all over their documentary and proving that the media is always going to spew the same slander regardless of how much evidence you give them.
as long as there are capitalists in power, they're going to keep smearing these socialist countries until the cows come home.
it's all just them trying to make us scared of communism.

Wow, I remember so well hearing about that whole "uncle fed to dogs" back when I was 14 and going "what a fucked up guy". Only until recently did I ever think it could've all been faked and here we are now.

Literally have the Dragon Balls.

Everyone in Asia may hate each other, but they can all agree that they hate Japan.

Almost half of South Koreans support the North? And 21,2% pick the absurd option of "attacking Japan"? Would like to see some source and explanation on this

The Fuck?

The propaganda is so bad even the Wikipedia article freely acknowledges it. Most articles are taken directly from South Korean media (who obviously shit on DPRK as much as they can) and translated to western newspapers. Then you have refugees who make a career around saying how horrible it is, because they'll avoid publicising the numerous ones who solely regret leaving the country (especially if they ran to South Korea). Just examine the whole "unicorn" bullshit and you have a good example of media trustworthiness right there.

regionally everyone hates Japan for a series of wars they conducted against China and Korea along with the occupations of Korea and China

Doubly so since post war the US kept the imperial japanese gov't officials in power and they basically refused to admit they occupied China and Korea or did anything bad to them

Unfortunately, the quality of this article is not reflected in the other wiki articles on the DPRK.

I’m inclined to believe that living in the DPRK isn’t much different than living in a comparably poor country, but with a different political culture. Pyongyangites are relatively wealthy and enjoy higher standards of living, while the periphery is filled with poverty. However, it is slightly different in that many other poor countries see the periphery mostly abandoned by the state, whereas in DPRK the state takes an interest in the periphery but has real limitations to their ability to extend power. So you get some odd things like farm complexes in the other cities/countryside that might have a gym, school or library in them because that is what is standard to the model farms. This isn’t so much of what you’d see in any other poor farming community.

I’d also say this directly dives into some leftist critiques of the situation in the DPRK. I think as a means to keep control and to keep loyalty, they’ve structured their state such that Pyongyang is the central organ of the entire country, and it is ruled most thoroughly and directly by the party. Pyongyang gets priority in everything, and it is planned much more closely than any other area of the country. It essentially exploits the rest of the country. I think there is probably some degree of necessity to this, as in with such a paucity of resources you’d need to prioritize the development of structures of command and response in order to avoid a critical power weakness that opens you up to foreign or domestic enemies. But, all of the flourishes like the water park, or greater access to consumer goods, just seems like a means of paying off the Pyongyangites for their loyalty and defense of the regime. I don’t think the periphery or rural elements want to revolt, but I don’t think they are totally happy either. They probably feel a mix of nationalistic pride and weariness over the intermittent hardships. But the standard of living has been rising in the DPRK, which even if it is marginal is going to lend some sense of stability to the state for its citizens. They’ve already lived this long in global poverty, that is their normal mode of existence, it isn’t intolerable to them like it would be for an American. So seeing things improve marginally is only an upside, it may not be accompanied by any impatience or indignant feelings about lackluster conditions like the citizen of a developed country may expect. Reports from inside the country seem to indicate that the professionals are largely waiting around for more trade to occur, which they all expect to happen eventually. KJU has been more open to markets and investment on the outskirts because it helps development, since the state doesn’t have the means to efficiently do some sort of direct command economy.

That is run by Chongryon, the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan. It has been only available inside Japan for a few years.
kcna.kp is accessible worldwide and is run directly from Pyongyang.
