We had a brutal hike on gasoline in my country at the start of the year and I wish we had protested as hard as the french are doing now, and I certainly hope Macron will have to take back the fuel tax increase.

Trump Administration Invites Health Care Industry to Help Rewrite Ban on Kickbacks The Trump administration has labored zealously to cut federal regulations, but its latest move has still astonished some experts on health care: It has asked for recommendations to relax rules that prohibit kickbacks and other payments intended to influence care for people on Medicare or Medicaid. The goal is to open pathways for doctors and hospitals to work together to improve care and save money. The challenge will be to accomplish that without also increasing the risk of fraud archive.is/WAGrQ

Wolf Richter: 438 Stocks on the NYSE Have Already Plunged 40%-94% from 52-Week Highs It’s barely a correction, technically speaking, with the S&P 500 down 9.9% from its all-time closing high, the Dow down 9.2%, the Nasdaq down 14%, and the Russell 2000 small-caps index down 15%. But beneath the surface, there has been some serious bloodletting for many stocks. For example, 438 stocks among the 2,051 or so stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) have plunged between 40% and 94% from their 52-week highs. This does not include any stocks traded on the Nasdaq. A Socialist Response to Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers’ Report In October, the Council of Economic Advisers, which counsels the president on economic matters, published a far-from-moderate report attacking socialism. Producing large-scale economic studies about socialism can be considered to be progress on the Washington establishment’s part, considering its usual practices of invading countries and instituting embargos that force entire populations into starvation (as in the cases of Nicaragua and Cuba).Ultimately though, the report reveals conservative, bourgeois economists’ ignorance about constructive political discourse. These economists — the very people who have much to lose from a transition to socialism — employ a paternalistic attitude toward the “careless masses,” one that resembles economist and philosopher Friedrich von Hayek’s approach in his bestselling book The Road to Serfdom. truthout.org/articles/a-socialist-response-to-trumps-council-of-economic-advisers-report/
In Thanksgiving teleconference, Trump appeals to military against courts, political opponents Trump used the opportunity to solicit direct military support against his political opponents and US court decisions unfavorable to the White House.“You probably see over the news what’s happening on our southern border,” he told Lyons, comparing the administration’s fascistic immigration policies with the fight against “terrorists” in Afghanistan. “Large numbers of people [are trying to cross the border], and in many cases, we have no idea who they are. And in many cases, they’re not good people; they’re bad people… You’re doing it over there, we’re doing it over here.” wsws.org/en/articles/2018/11/24/pers-n24.html
Business as Usual: Washington’s Regime Change Strategy in Venezuela For those who have been following Venezuela closely in recent years there is a distinct sense of déjà vu regarding US foreign policy towards that South American nation. That measure is literally playing with fire though

The problem was spraying too many chemicals into the air without knowing what we're doing, the solution?……. Spraying MORE chemicals into the air without knowing what we're doing! YAY SCIENCE!
Bentley Wood
I’m usually fine with immigrants, but not boomer immigrants Burgerland needs less boomers, not more
Was this meant to be ironic? Are you really the same poster?
Logan Adams
It's honestly an insult to the memory of the Luddites to compare them to Greens…
With all the stuff that gets posted about climate change here you'd think they'd know that stopping all emissions NOW would not stop climate change and may actually accelerate it due to the lack of counter-vailing pollutants. It's not even just a problem with emissions but we can save that argument for later.
Geoengineering is literally the only solution to our problems.
Jordan Morgan
No, the people who are talking about geoenginering know what their doing. They aren’t Porky.
Asher Allen
And you think people will take kindly to a group of people fumigating the planet? You're insane.
The most simple geo-engineering is creating clouds. Tech is simple (water vapor), and we can regionally check how it works out and easily adjust the amount in real time.
Elijah Rodriguez
kek. no they don't. reminder scientists are the same people who told us everyone would starve decades ago because of overpopulation. they aren't omniscient and they can't account for everything.
Nathaniel Smith
I do not trust ANY geoengineering that is pioneered by imperialist nations. They will have no problem sacrificing poor people in the third world to keep first world nations habitable.
Quite a few are funded by porky.
Chase Turner
Fuck off and shut up. Ignoring science is what lead to the global warming situation in the first place. Being anti-science is reactionary.
Most aren’t
Michael Carter
there's a difference between being anti-science and acknowledging that the science community isn't always 100% right.
William Flores
Most ARE. Being funded by an imperialist government is still being funded by porky.
Josiah Davis
all we did was delay Malthus, we didn't escape him fren
Brayden Rodriguez
Read Marx.
Hudson Bailey
Wow. It's not first world nations that are really gonna be on the chopping block when climate change really kicks in, retard. First World nations are comfortable with doing nothing and the whole kick-the-can-down-the-road omissions scam because they do not expect to be hit as hard. While the first world nations won't get off scot-free, the facts are that the expected stress for third world nations will range from the socially/economically unbearable to being literally uninhabitable.
You think you're doing them a service by being critical of the intentions of the scientists from imperialist countries but in reality your position is more dangerous for developing nations than the anti-biotech crowd and AIDs denialists. And that is saying something considering that the ideas of both groups have likely resulted in hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths.
Jack Young
please take your neoliberal apologetics back to Zig Forums
Colton Moore
You retards, scientists got this idea from noticing how volcano eruptions decrease global temperature. They plan to replicate that effect. When I said playing with fire, I meant the side effects of putting too much sulfate into the atmosphere like acid rain and who knows how deeply sulfate affects the environment
Jackson Murphy
hahaha how are we such a dumb fucking species "yay we're saved!" *rain starts falling* *skin starts bubbling*
Chase Reyes
So, not that anyone should care, but the New York Times just published a documentary claiming that Pootin did PizzaGate, but if you actually say that's what they just did they'll just deny, deny, deny, but countries aren't eligible to sue for Libel so nothing's gonna happen, I just hope RT will reply to this retardation, that would be a blast.
the internet was literally created for military purposes, the moon landing was a propaganda stunt, nuclear energy was a byproduct of the nuclear weapons program
the internet was only worthwhile once it was no longer in the military's hands, the moon landing continues to be worthless, and nuclear energy went nowhere once the weapons programs ended
my nigga if skin starts bubbling from acid rain, forget global warming. That is the End Times. Really Acid rain will fuck a lot buildings and cars shit up. Also fuck with our water supply.
Isaac Howard
The only way to solve global warming is to harness the power to control the weather. Although if that is ever achieved then it opens up a whole differnt can of worms where the government can freeze you to death and control when it rains or not
Eli Carter
Honestly, just have a limited nuclear war that creates a survivable nuclear winter. Global warming solved
Josiah Wilson
If you dropped the flag people might take you seriously but technocrats are never tyo be trusted you're all scheming little creatures who are almost worse than capitalists; at least they're bound by the logic of capital, you're just fags with superiority complexes and petit-bourgeois morality.
Jordan Wilson
this is false. the method only allows us to see cause-and-effect and trends within isolated systems. at the end of the day it's up to the human consciousness to paint a bigger picture made of these connections, key word being human.
Anthony Cooper
this mainly has to do with anti-nuke propaganda
Cameron Torres
Yeah the mot important things are, in order 1) Cuting emissions 2) Sequestering carbon and replacing lost carbon sinks
To all those people acting hysterical over geoengineering, this is what they want to chuck into the air. It's not gonna 'destroy the world' any more than your typical volcano eruption would do, and it won't lead to Snowpiercer unless you keep dumping more and more of it without any regulation, and the effect falls off after a few years. It's far from a full solution, it's not the most well-researched subject, and it definitely has adverse side effects - such as depleting the ozone layer - but it's a million times better than risking a runaway greenhouse effect.
t Retard Technological advances such as geoenginering end up reducing the amount of value created during the labor process. This reduction of value caused by automation is the main driving force behind the falling rate of profit. Capitalism destroys it’s self.
you can still have automation without TRPF. the problem comes from the fact that the cost of fixed capital production becomes exponentially as expensive as the circulating capital.
Ethan Thomas
Iirc Discovery Channel did a series of docs exploring geoengineering ideas with practical experiments and found most of them wouldn't work…
Relative to what? This is the study they linked: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/aae98d Doesn't sound cheap to me. And like a lot of work, too. Seriously, if someone decides to do geoengineering, this is not the way they're gonna take.
Not a typical volcano eruption. A big volcano eruptions needs to be emulated to combat the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Which is why it needs to be repeated constantly. And long-term dimming the sun will obviously cause issues.
It might be better than nothing. But it's far off from a solution to anthropogenic climate change. More something like a last option.
Lincoln Ross
Which is exactly what it does. Sulfate aerosols is what creates the cooling effect from volcanic eruptions. There's no reason to put out anything beyond that. And that is what makes it safer than many other options. Any effects can be reversed by simply stopping the program. The dimming effect is also not massive, it's not gonna affect plants or shit like that. I agree that it is not a full solution but neither is reducing emissions. A full solution to climate change requires some means of lowering the global temperature, and this might be useful as a stop-gap until we can get something more permanent and with fewer adverse effects.
Ryder Brooks
it's not like this is going to be the only solution for climate change nor would climate scientists disregard the potential side effects and population control would have saved early Communist China a lot of trouble
Nicholas Price
This is a really weak article and I suspect the author knows nothing about economics. Compare that to the thread we had: >>2690822 The economists' report refers to Kenneth Arrow's "Uncertainty and the Welfare Economics of Medical Care", which actually argued for the position that free-market healthcare doesn't work. The report argues that Venezuela should only use its oil for importing consumer goods as the responsible thing to do. The report misrepresents the amount of value-added tax a typical Nordic household has to pay (says it's at 25 %, when this is only true for Denmark, the usual European VAT policy is having a distinct lower rate for food, books, and some other things). The report says that "economic freedom", measured in size of the private sector, leads to "prosperity", measured in money-for-thing-or-service exchanges (so that an allocation of something according to need doesn't show up in that measure). The reports claims the cost of owning a pick-up truck is a sensible measure to compare countries, with no regard to the differences in other transport options (public transport is usually also among the things with a lowered VAT). The report argues against single-payer healthcare without mentioning the British NHS even once.
John Gray
One problem is that this would destroy our oceans. Ocean acidification is being held in check by the warming of the oceans because warm water can't dissolve as much CO2 as cool water. If we were to reduce the global temperature without reducing CO2, acidification would become so severe that it would kill the oceans.
Jayden Gray
Which is one of the reasons why it is not a full solution, but something that should be accompanied by an overall decrease of emissions and increased carbon sequestration. Reminder that higher ocean temperatures also have a catastrophic effect on ocean life.
Gavin Thomas
Why even bother.
Wyatt Rogers
It's being treated as a full solution and you know it. There are no serious plans to decrease emissions or to sequester carbon. They're just hoping they can do something cheap and easy to fix the problem, so they don't have to pay for a real solution.
Noah Miller
Wrong, read Marx. He says that TFRP comes from automation.
Compared to turning 90% of the global south into desert it’s cheep
Julian Powell
Reducing the SNLT of a commodity reduces its profitability directly, since profit comes from the surplus value taken from that labor. You'd have to offset the decrease in value (labor infused into product) by inflating the price for the profit to be maintained, and that's not possible in a competitive context (a market) where other people will undercut you. Automation is only safe for capitalism in the context of a monopoly.
That has nothing to do with my point. The fact that some idiots think this is a get-out-of-jail free card does not mean that this or some other kind of geoengineering shouldn't be an important part of a broader climate program.
David Mitchell
No, they said overpopulation was possible. Conspiratards are the ones who set an early date. It is basically an open secret at this point that neoclassical economics violate the laws of physics.
