I’ve actually found this to be the case.

Their whole angle is that the USSR was basically 1984 in real life, and so were all the other historical socialist states. All future socialist revolutions will develop in the same way because they’re idealists who think that societies are just the physical reflections of abstract concepts. And they’ll bang on about this point until the cows come home. Discuss actual history however, and they have no response and slink off.
