He is an ultra-reformist and therefore an idealist but his heart is in the right place and he provides great insight in bourgeois economics and politics, because he actually was a minister of a EU country for a while, attending all these meetings. I feel like he's being pushed to the left more and more in the recent years and DiEM might be a good platform for communists to agitate.

He's a really smart dude, and if nothing else a good gateway drug to the real stuff for people teetering on the edge of anti-capitalism. I've frequently used the capitulation of Syriza as an example of the limits of radical SocDem politics to lefties who are freaked out by me calling for Communism, then directed them towards Varoufakis and his critiques. This has worked really well in easing Normies up to ever more radical rhetoric.
