If you gotta put a label to Marx's opinions about god, the best thing to say is that he was an apatheist. Compare it to Stirner saying that the Ego is more important than god even if he exists. Marx's opinion was a bit more nuanced but along the same line.

He vehemently opposed Feuerbach's position towards religion, which was basically the New Atheism of the 19th century. We evolved out of naive concepts of religion. God as a big sky-wizard is gone. There's no real content to him anymore. "Believing" and "not believing" is just a question of abstractions.

Here's my position, which I imagine Marx must have shared: To someone who holds God in high regard, and has a deep and honest concept of him, I may gladly declare myself a fellow believer. To another person I may not, since they aren't talking about the same thing. Any God that we might meaningfully speak of will be a distant philosophical entity, something any intelligent person will understand regardless of whether they're religious. At this point in history, it is better to go through life without being fixated on it one way or the other, and to instead seek truth starting from material reality.

I don't know about that, but zen buddhism informs my anarchism (poor choice of words). Zen is all about being mindful of what you're doing. Zazen allows you time to get a perspective on yourself and the world. And the point is not to leave society, like the ideal in many religions, but to return to it. I enjoy all my anarchist/socialist work to which I volounteer my time. Again, poor choice of words because it's not enjoyment, it's just living in particular circumstances and material conditions. Same way I feel about the labour I do for a wage as well as anything else I might do. The difference being that I don't desire to be experiencing anything else but take in what I can from every moment. Things often have a way of working out if you don't plan too much or try to force changes or things to happen. It is easier to split wood with the grain than against it.
